AN UNKNOWN NEGRO TRAMP FALLS
UNDER THE WHEELS AND IB CRUSH
ED TO DEATH.
An unknown negro tramp who
was stealing a ride on the trucks
of aC. R. & C. freight train, by
some means unknown, lost his
hold and was thrown under the
moving train at the C. R. & C. and
E. T. V, <k G. R. R. crossing in
East Rome at 2 o’clock this morn
ing. He was literally cut to pieces
rhe whole train having passed
over his body.
He was a strange negro and un
known by any one here. Nothing
was found on his person by which
he could be identified. The coro
ner was summonsed and held an
inquest, after which the remains
were taken charge of and buried
by the county,

NOTICE TO CITY PAYERS.
The tax upon real and personal
property levied on by the Mayor and
Council of the city of Rome for the
fiscal year of 1894 and 1895 is at the
rate of one and and-fifth of one per
cent on the taxable value. Attention
is called to the following sections of
the taxable ordinance.
Section 4: the taxes levied in
the preceding sections of this ordi
nance shall be required to be paid,
one half on or before the 15th, day
of June, 1891, and the other hal n
or before the 15 th, day of Septem
ber, 1891, and the entire amount of
taxes being hereby declai ed due at
the time of levy, may be paid on or by
the first named date—the making of
this tax payable in two installments
being only for the accommodation
and convenience of the taxpayers
who desire to avail themselves of
this privilege.
section 7. That on failure to pay
the first portion of the tax required
by this ordiance by the time specifi
ed, in section 4 ( of the ordiance, the
clerk shall issue fi fa for the whole
amount of tax for the year, and pro
ceed to enforce the collection of the
