The letter was written in Lexing
ton and sent to the postmaster at
Pittsburg, Pa, inclosed with a letter
asking that it be forwarded back to
Lexington. The request was granted,
but the postmaster endorsed the en
velope of the infamous letter with
these words in red ink:’‘Sent from
Lexington with the request that it be
.mailed here.’’
insinuates immorality .
The letter begins by demanding
that the ladies to whom it was ad
dressed. Mesdames Judge Milton J .
Durham, wife of the ex. comptroller
•of the treasury; Judge Jera R. Mor
ton, Col. A. L. Harrison and two
other ladies, cease their “detestiole
proceedings against Col, Breckin
ridge.’ It indulges in a half page
ci the most insulting it si s nations aid
obscene innuendoes, and insults the
ladies in every way imaginable.
Threats of the most bloody
character are then used, and final
ly the letter charges that several
of the ladies have skeletons in
their own family closets that they
would not wish aired by the press
and threatens to bring innumer
able scaudais before the public
unless they cease opposing Breck
enridge. Further, the letter
threatens death unless the>demauds
specified are obeyed.
MRS, MORTON NOT SCARED.
Mrs, Judge Morton refused to
give the letter to the press on
the ground that it should not be
prim°d. She said, however, that
the ladies to whom the letters was
addressed were not frightened, but
had ample confidence in their hus
bands ability to defend them from
scandal and physical violence.
The ladies claim that they re
cognize the handwriting of the let

c-dge man, and in the event that

called out and the usual satisfac
tion demanded, Indignation is

Desha Breckinridge did not hear
of Corbiu looking for him nor of
his being offended until 5 o’clock
yesterday afternoon. He then
went to the Phoenix Hotel and sat
out in front of that hostelry until
10 o’clock Monday night. Corbin
had gone back to Georgetown, and
the two men did not meet.

lying and being on the east side cf the Calhoun
road that leads from Rome to Calhoun begin
ning at the Rome Dist. line on the maeademized
road at Adolf us Harbor’s land and following said
road to the Gordon county iine so as to include
all land now in Watters Dist., that lies east of
said road in the new district.
It is ordered that you, or a majorly of you,
go upon the premises and view the proposed
change as indicated above: and if you find it
necessary and expedient you must proceed to
lay out and define tie same :nJ make your
report under oath to this Boaid on or
before the first Monday in June next that
you have .laid out and defined the Lines of said
new district, conformably to law.

their return reporting that they had laid out
said territory and recommending a new militia
district be established, and i’ being made to ap
pear that a sufficient number of white men sub
ject to military duty remain in Watters District
to form a captains company and a sufficient num
ber of white men are in the proposed new Dis- ;
trict to form a captains company and said com
missioners having reported it is expedient and
best to establish such new district, the report
of said commissioners is approved, a new mill
tia district is established in Floyd county, Ga.

ritory being the entire territory heretofore em

Whereas, it appears from the proceedings of
Cvmmissioners’appointed therefore, of tile in
this office, that a new Militia district with suit
able meets and bound s has been laid out in the
County of Floyd; and it further appearing that
said proceedings are in due form and accord
ing to law; it is Ordered
That said New Militia district be known and
distinguished as numlier 1518, and that pi op
er record thereof be made in the office of this
department.
