What a freshet!—Boys this beats ’B6.’’ Henderson Lan ham and Clevo Trevitt had to pick McOsker up aud carry him to the hotel while Bailiff McLeod and Bil, Dreanon lead George Morris to the kitchen aud gave him a drink of water. Now Mr. Hustler I am not go ing to try to tell you about all the details of this trip—l know my business, Aud I propose to cover (be ground swiftly—just hitting the high places and “events” and some of the “eveuters” as we go along. In the first place we are in this place and if the wind would ever let up why we might have time to make up our minds that it is the pleasantest place on earth—or the Ocean either for that matter. After the ‘ George Sharps trou ble” we got into the hotel and were getting ourselves registered aud roomed very nicely when all of a sudden a sort of a “Mr. Potter of Texas” pork packing refugee from Chicago come crushing through the crowd and grasping Dr, Trevitt by the hand exclaim ed: “Why Chauncey, old boy, hows York? As for Joe Johnson’s beaver, it has gone wild. Ils circulation is the greatest for its percapita, ever seen in this neck of the woods be fore. AND IS FAST BECOMING A RESORT WHERE MORTALS MEET AND ARE GIVEN IN MARRIAGE. CONTRAST, IS THE IDEA THIS YEAR. Atlantic City, July lltii 18)4.-- There is not a hotel man in Atlau tic City who is not jubilant over the prospects for a season winch in point of magnitude and brilliancy, will far outshine any previous year. Never before in the month of June have there been such big crowds h< r j a fact evidenced by the appearance on the boardwalks every day of a crowd which, in size, is a close rival of the midsummer throngs of years past. Judging from the rooms being en gaged by Washingtonians the capital city will be well represented, and by those whose stay will be lengthened into a longer period than usual. Beyond being a resort where newly married couples pass away the pleas tnt days of their honeymoon, Atlan aic City is becoming the center of marriage events, several couples hav ing already journeyed here in order to enter Hymen’s bonds within sight and sound of the sea. Were the lucky individuals enjoy ing the cool seß air here ta inform their sweltering brethern in the In land, that overcorts and wraps form n most comfortable abjuuct to th? evening wearing apparel, they would be scoffed at, yet such is the fact. The display of this heavier article of dress on the boardwalk during the evening promenade is a notable one, and gives a look of discomfort to those who come here supplied only with the lighter wear of summer. Bathing after dai knees has fallen and when the moon is bright, has be come quite a fad among some of the society people here, and nearly ever) evening a merry party is seen mak ing its way towards the Ocean. The glare of the electric lights seiAe to illuminate the water for considerable distance out, and throws iuto relief the bathers as they dip up and down in the waves.. It is sel dom, however, that the member of the party go out as far or take the risks as they would in the daytime, through occasionally some one helper than the lest will vanish in the dark ness, take a Jong swim and return after considerable time. Some young ladies, prominent lights in the social set of Pitts burgb, and stopping at the Brigh ton, had au experience the other day which has made them shy of indulging in ocean baths, or at J'-ast long swims, in the future. A discussion as to their respec tive abilities caused a wager ot a box of candy between them as to Aho coiud reach the life boat first. A most striking instance of this 'vas noticed the other day in the case of four pretty members of the lair sex who were out on their af ternoon promenade. Two of them were attired in white, as pure as the driven snow, while their com panions were robed entirely in black from head to foot.
