Go there you husbands who complain, Ami solemn warning take From him who was so justly slain By eating mother’s cake. Chicago Journal. TH! jWORD “WIFE.” Mr. Ituekin Bays: “What Jo you think the beautiful word ‘wife’ come from? It is the great word with which the English and Latin languages con quered the French and Greek. I hope the French will some day get a word for it instead of that of femme. But what do you think it comes from? The great value of the Saxons wo ’ds is that they mean something. Wife mear • ‘weave .’ You must either be hous< wives or housemoths, le men brth it In the deep sense, you must t ither ave men’s fortunes and embroider their, or feed upon them ami bring them to decay. This, believe, is the true woman's plao. and power ’ “Alter all, what is a kiss?” said young Mr. Warreu, reflectively, af ter pressing the lips of His Bos ton fiancee. “A kiss, replied Miss South Church, “is the anatomical juxta position ot orbicularis muscles in a state of contraction.’’ —Judge. GET OUT DOORS. Every woman owes it to herself and family 7 to get out in the open air and enjoy the life-giving sun shine. Mothers and children who have been confined more or less in heated rooms all winter, should now revel in pure air. There is nothing so valuable as sunshine, pure air and fresh water. The springtime of many women is suggestive only of hard work. They are good housekeepers, their tinware and stoves are always bright, their washing done on Mon day morning; they may be going to move that day into another state, but the washing must be done first there is no child’s name scrawled on their windows; their children have never worn a torn garment in their lives, and their mothers never read a book to them or told them any interesting sto ry. The houses of these women may be clean and pure, but their minds will grow dusty and cobwebby. Nature will renew herself in the springtime, and while our homes must be cleaned and brightened, our own and children’s wardrobes made over and added to, let us al so take time to look beyond our work, to “brighten up” soul and mind. Ou these lovely June days there is something at every turn to re mind us of the possibilities of life and to suggest away by which we may be instrument for doing good. The beautiful of nature pass in daily succession many people w ith— out leaving any impression what ever; many derive no satisfaction from the scenery around them: they have no conception ot the beauties of their ov y country, We know one young lady that underwent great exertion to collect fiewers and ferns from the diflieut states that she had visited, and was ignorant of* tie fact that the same plants grew m the WOOtIB around het own home. Children should be interestid iu the rising and setting sun; the sky ; the frost • and the animal aud vegetable kingdom Thay will bob'D-fited liv this, and receive much |d<*H«ur- that they would hardly exchange t-ipanv other • Children ii.ay do may UshlU' things which to them is only play. do child will re'tuse to rake rhe yard end gather brush tog-ihei tor a bonfire ; each chi'd should be given a spot of ground tor hie favorite Anvers; th- 1 buys will take inter-st in mis and neadly make neat supports for vines and slender plants. There is nothing so conductive to good spirits and that nnan« good health a- outdoor exercise; a neat la.vn growing plants can be kept in order by the mother anti children and will often invite you out when you would otherwise re main indoors Children will not be restless and “cross ’ and want to go some place so often if you will only lead ;nd let them learn to love natue.
