One of the best lawyers at the
Rome Bar remarked to me this
morning: “I notice that the board
appoiuted by the Governor to re
codify the Code of the State are
having a lot of trouble. The truth
of the business is, the Governor
made a big mistake when he faded
to put Capt. C. Rowell, of the
Rome Bar on that board for, in
my opinion, Capt. Rowell now has
as perfect a Code as can be found
in the State.’’
♦
♦ ♦
“I have noticed Capt. Rowell tor
a long time, and whenever the leg
islature changes any Jaw or the
supreme court passes a decision
that has a bearing or tendency to
change the meaning of any section
of the Code, he will clip it and
pas'e it at its proper place in his
inter-leaved old Code. Its a system
followed so long by Capt Rowell
that I think it has become a kind
of second nature with him.

A KLEVER KAPTURE.
At an early hour this morning,
Officer Logan made one of the best
catches that has occurred in police
circles in some time. Mr. Logan
had been home to breakfast, and
as he was returning to his post of
duty, he saw two negroes on West
First St. talking to Mr. J. S.
Wyatt. They had a cow with them
tied by a rope. The officer w alked
up behind them and listened a few
minutes to their conversation with
Mr. Wyatt, to whom they were
trying to sell the cow. Mr. Wyatt
question them very closely whil e
Mr. Logan listened, and aftee
hearing their story, he becamr
thoroughly convinqpd that the cow
had been stolen.
He then walked up and placed the
two negroes under arrest and took
them to the lock up, they were put
in separate sells, and in less than 30
minutes they had each turrled states
evidence, each one claiming that the
other had stolen tue cow and hired
him to drive her to town.
The cow was stolen from a man
near Kingston in Bartow county; they
will be held for the authorities from
Bartow, who have been notified,

A'kron, 0., August 24. —While

Half an hour later a dynamite

in another sheaf was exploded in
the separator, wrecking the ma
chine and setting fire to the barn.
John W. Hines, Jacob and Charlie
Lacey attempted to rescue the
horses in the barn.
They failed, and Charley Lacey
lost his life in the attempt. Hines
was fataily injured.
Four b-rses, one mule and sev
eral cattle were burned to death
