For first class job printing I recom mend my readers to call on ‘ Smith the the Printer.” He knows his business and he is “fixed” to do your work not only in the best 4tyle but jam up on short notice. But read what he says for himself. .< One of the saddest deaths re corded in this section for many a day occurred this morning in Ly erly. At about 7 o’clock the sweet womanly spirit of the girl-wife of Mr. Att Kirby severed its earthly moorings and floated out into the great sea of eternity, where, pilot ed by the hands of angels, it was wafted through the “Valley of the Shadow” into the “Bright Be yo.d” * * * Less than a year ago Mrs. Kirby was known, loved and admired by a wide circle of friends. At the altar of matrimony, as Miss May Gilmer, she was wed heart and hand to popular Att Kirby, and as his bride spent a blissful honey moon which lasted until the finger of death broke the loving fetters. The remains will be laid to rest in Summerville tomorrow. The heart broken young husband and bereav ed relatives have the sympathy of all Rome. ** One of Floyd county’s most ag gressive democrats hand me this squill this morning* “You can never fa t horn the correct size of a politician until he has failed in an effort to seen e office.” “That,” said he, “was clipped from a news paper. and when I read it 1 thought of John Tempje Graves so strong ly that I cut it out. Col. John Temple may have, struck the pop ular chord in his recent tirade, but I am of the opinion that he missed it badly—so badly that he only hit the populists chord. » * * Have you noticed the Bermuda grass on the new Court house lawn? It is very pretty and is like the democratic party, it is iryiug to cover the face of the eanb. This grass is a hobby with County Commisi-ioner Billy Wright, and it does a fellow good to catch that gentleman unawares and gaze ou the smiie of satisfaction that man tles his well known face as he feasts his eyes on the luxuriant carpet of living green I think he will h ve reached the height of hi s ambition when he g ts the fountains and J the young trees planted. * * * ‘ Living Pictures ’ in the city ol the dead! But then thev are not in the city of the dead. It might not have been the proper thing to with, to permit the circus'msn to brace their bill boards over against the foot of Dyrtle Hill cerm tery, but now that it is done I fail to see wherein there is any harm to come of it. I have noticed those boards closely—very—who has not? Andjit strikes me that they are well built, and that the pictures are hung on the right side. It the circus men had put the pictures on the other side there might be room for kicking— the liv ing would doubtless feel slighted and the dear dead might feel insult | PRINTING! i FTER having been actively engaged in the Printing business for twenty-nine years, I think I may without doing violence to modesty claim to be an expert in that business. Ami speaking as an expert I desire to say that the business men of Rome are the most liberal and at the same time the most discriminating patrons of the “Art Preservative” I have ever served in any city. That is, they willingly pay generous prices for first class work, but they quickly detect imposition in the way of shoddy paper, cheap ink. interior workmanship. I could swell my lean purse to plethoric proportions in a short time by palming off straw paper and news ink on my customers—and thereby destroy the business 1 have spent years in building up. I will not do it. 1 am trying to keep up with the procession and grow as Rome grows, but am not doing work at cost, nor anything near it. But Ido claim to be the only man (with one exception) who has run a successful Job Printing business in Rome. I have seen dozens of’em start out claiming to do the “cheapest and best,” and they all died with the same com plaint—inferior workmanship, prices too low. This summer I have greatly increased the facilities of my office, added new styles of type, increased the quantity of body type, put in labor-saving appliances, and am now better prepared than ever to handle the Printing business of Rome. If you are not already my customer, you are standing in your own light. Face about, come to headquarters and get your Stationery, and <2=M)ou’ll .If cd better.
