Some of the Dew designs in ta ble damask are beautiful. One, for instance, has a deep border cf great lilies and fern leaves, and an inner border of the same flowers and leaves on a small er scale, the center by the graceful trails of vine leaves while another is adorned with a bordering of roses and wisteria, a great bouquet being arranged in the center, one side being closely massed while the other is compos ed of a light spray of flowers. Clusters of convolvulus and wheat ears compose the design ot another most beautiful piece cloth, which has a great spray of the wheat and flowers down the right side of the centre and at the left a trail of hops, while peonies large and small, intermixed with foliage, show to advantage on an other handsome cloth. Nothing could well be more beautiful or more original than a border of combined roses and fuchsias, single roses being dotted over the centre, interspersed with clusters of the two flowery, and a new oval shaped centre, sur rounded by a square, conventional border, is also worthy of special praise. Loveliest of all, perhaps, is a cloth which has a beautiful tapes try like design of poppies, full blown and half open, and a small er inner border of the same grace ful flowers, the centre being formed of single bu,is and flowers; and thert, are lilies of all kinds, con volvulus and blackberries, pansies and iris, tulips and wisteria in every imaginable combination. An ideal cloth for a Christmas dinner table bears a cleverly arranged de sign of hollies and berries. FADS ANO FANCIES. Dainty Novelties Approved by Mme. La Mode. Marie Louise is a new shade of blue. It is sofciewhat brighter than cadet blue. Pale yellow and also a green which suggests the first tender leaves of lettuce are to be the vogue. Tans and various shades of brown are holding their own bravely. A new kind of gauze, inter woven with gilt or silver threads, is frequently used as a lining for net or lace dresses. This is rather wiry of texture, but is very firm, though semi-transparent, affording a very satisfactory foundation. Points on Vandykes figure prominently among the jet novel ties, and very artistic effects may be obtained with them. They are composed of small jet facets, very minute beads and large cobochons that stand out in high relief from the other jets and greatly intensi f y the brilliance of the decorations Some Vandykes are in open enrol. or wheel patterns, and others are solid. Narrow black velvet ribbon overlaid with ecru vine lace is a pretty dress trimming. Cream lace is used as well on serge and sack-I ing dresses as on satin. Velvet overlaid with ecru insertion is common on crepon dresses, green being the color used in one effec tive model. Suits made with tabs and buttons have the mock button holes outlined with soutache. White embroidery and black satin ribbons are the trimmings used on a dark blue crepon. Silken muslin crepe lisse, mouse] ine*de soie, fig ured lace, sprangled tulle and Lib erty satin are some of the gauzy fabrics found as trimmings on the latest imported designs. Black silk muslin and jet are by far the most desirable accessories for black and white silks. LAYERING ROSES. Layers of the best roses may now jbe made for winter blooming plants. These plants are cheap, but they take a considerable time to recover after a journey through the mail, when procured from the florists. lx is the easier t thing io make new plants by layering. This is to bend down a brancii, half splitting the part that will go in the ground for two inches or less, and peg this cut part down by af< r ed stick to hold it. The soil must be kept wet all the time, and covei ed over the cut part of the branch. Or, the cut part may be fitted in a small pot, and this suspended or raised to a convenient position, so that it may be kept wet When the new plant Las made roots it is cut loose from the parent branch, and may then be potted for winter blooming. The same may be done with other plants that ere desired for window culture, which is very much better than cutting the old plants back and moving them indoors. The new plant will advance much more rapidly than the old moved ones. THE BIG SHOW. Many Kinds of Magnificent, and Varied Entertainment. The death of Adam Forepaugh and P T. Barnum places Sells Brothers in first magnitude.
