New York, Sept. 10. —William Schneider, aged 21 years, of Wil 'iamsburgh. was accused of assault by his sister, Elizabeth, in Police Court to-day. “For many years,” Miss Sohn i der said, “my brother lias been an inveterate cigarette fiend, and mother and I have tried our best to make him stop it. A month ago he began to act as if there was something the matter with his head. He said foolish tilings and’craved for cigarettes. He declared that cigarettes were following him wherever he went. Then he became violent and tried to kill mother with an ax, and then to kill me.” The Justice com mitted Schneider to jail to have his sanity inquired into. China-Japan War News. London, Sept. 10.—The Central News correspondent in Shanghai says that the Chinese have ceased sending reinforcements to Corea via Manchuria. Troops are now drafting from the interior for the coast garrisons •presumably in anticipation of a •feea attack. The Japanese are repairing the roads around Seoul to facilitate the movement of troops'. Sickness is prevalent in the Chinese camp near Ping Yang, on account of the continued rains and bad provi sions. HIGHWAY ROBERT Foor Negro Draymen are Arrested on the Above Charges. This morning Mr. Al Burney of the Burney Transfer Company, had warrants sworn out against Henry and Will Sanford, Will Fain and “Squire” Richardson, charging them with high-way robery. It seems that last night a lady came in over the E. T. V. &G. and giving Will Sanford a trunk check, wanted him] to bring her and the baggage both in his hack. Henry Sanford told him that he better not do so or they would make a case against him. The negro took the trunk out of the hack and asked Henry to bring it over. I One of Mr Burney’s transfer men whs standing near and took tne trunk and placed it in his wagon. Sanford at once looked it up and placed it in his owe. wag on and this morning Mr. Burney made the charge against the whole crowd. The trial is iu progress before ud.e Lumpkin as wa go to press Mr. Charley Ivey, who has been a popular conductor on the A. G S. Railroad at Birmingham for the past nine years, retu.’ ned to his post of duty yesterday, after a pleasant visit with his handsome wife, to friends in this city.
