Hav etneyer and Searles, of the Sugar Trust, and Broker Seymour, of New York, all of whom refused to I answer questions propounded by . the Senate Investigating Commit-1 tee. The World correspondent- asked I Uui’ed States District-Attorney I Birney today if the report was true I that the Gratjd Jury had acted up- | on these casts. Hh replied: *1 ’ cannot tell you. I cant say that no indictments have been returned.” His answer does not preclude the possibility that the indictments h ve been found by the Grand Ju ry, and common expectuiioa is that they will be presented m ’the criminal court some time next week. Correspondent Ewards and Bro ker Chapman, when indicted on similar charges awhile ago, came f - om New York to Washington to give bail, but it is said that in the cases of Messrs Havemeyer.Searles and Seymour bail may be accept ed m New York. ■ =5 Wrecked by a Light Engine.
