New York Democrats May Nomi nate the Man who BeatMcKane New York, Sept, 25. —About 4(X) members of the state Demo cracy, the Grace Fairchild contin gent of anti-Tammanyites, left this city this morning on a special train for Saratoga. The train con sisted of ten cars. The Tammany delegates and about 1,000 friends started for Saratogo today about noon on the New York Central railroad. They traveled ixi three special trains. Ab of the helegates who dropped into the city hail before going to the Grand Central depot were talking about Judge Gaynor ana predicting that he would be nomi nated on the first ballot. Connecticut Democrats. New Haven, Conn., Sept. 25. — The democratic state convention meets here tomorrow to put in the field a full state ticket, and to night the contest has narrowed down to two men for the first po sition on the ticket. These are Judge Beardsley, of Bridgeport, and Lieutenant Gov ernor Cady, of Hartford, and other than |hese no name is mentioned seriously. In the fight for the first place the balance of the ticket is lost sight of. Lawyer Powderly. Scranton, Pa., Sept- 25. —Ter- rence V. Powderly, ex general master workman of the Knights of Labor, was today admitted to the bar of Lackawanna county. Virginia Nev., Sept 25. —The state central party of the commit tee of the silver party has. through Chairman Kinkhead, written a complimentary letter to Senator John P. Jones, commending his course in leaving the Republican party. The letter assures the Senator that he need not feel called upon to resign the senatorship on the demand of the Republican party, and declares he owes his position to the whole people of Nevada, who irrespective of any party wish him to represent them in the senate, Speaking at Kingston. Kingston, Ga., September 25. Mr. Wil'iam H. Lumpkin, the democratic nominee for the Senate from the forty-second senatorial district, addressed the citizens of this place at the public hall last week. His speech was to the point and every one was impressed with his ernestness. After Mr. Lump kin’s speech Colonel J. Watt Har ris, Jr. made a brilliant address. A Protestant Church. Madrid, Sept. 24. —With all the imposing ceremony of the church, the Most Rev. Lord Plankett, 4 rchbishop of Dublin, today con secrated the Protestant church in this city and also consecrated the Rev. Senor Cabrea as the first Pro testant bishop of Madrid. It is ex pected that the elevation of Senor Cabrea to the bishopric will cause a sensation in the Catholic world. j _ y Accidents to Football Players.
