O. R. McDaniel the D mocratic nominee, ran ahead of his ticket and was declared elected by the board of election cc.nimieAouers and was given hie cert ideale of elee tion. Vaughn served notice on Mc- Daniel that he intended to contest the election and arrangements were made for faking depositions. A few days ago McDaniel receiv ed a note written upon a sheet o* the paper that was used by the Populists during th" campaign ii - forming him that if he did not -urrender his claim to the county clerkship he would be killed and hit home would be burned. The Democrats of Nevada county are very much wrought up over the threat, and every night three or four citizens are detailed to guard his house, TRADEGY AT BELL’S. A Farmer and a Tenant kill one Another. Monroeville Ala, Sept. 30.—A shocking shooting aifair occurred at Bell’s Landing Monday last, re. suiting in the death of two persons one a prominent citizen of this ciuoty, MrM.P. A negro named Evan Baldwin v as farming on Mr. St ill worth’s land. and commenced to haul his cotton to a neighboring gin, wl en Mr. Stallworth order; d h m not to d« so, but to haul it to his. Monday they met, each armed with a gun. and tired on each other at the same time. Stallworth was shot in the eye w ith a small shot which proved fatal in twelve hours. The negro was rhot in the bowels and only lived about an hour. Mr. Stallworth was a prosperous a.nd popular citizen and leaves a wife and children to mourn his loss. CAUGHT THE MURDERER The Moonshiner who Killed a Rev enue Officer Now in Jail. Little Rock,Sept,3o, -John Cook , one of the Pike county moonshi ners who ki'led Deputy United Mates Marshall Grisson two weeks ago, was captured yesterday, and is in jail in this city. Jim Cook, his brother, is in the mountains of Pike, and is being pursued bv a posse. It is believed that he will be captured before morning. Mobile, Ala. ,S°pt. 30—The Fair hope Industrial Association of Des Moines, la ,have determined to es tablish a colony based on Henry- George's single tax theory in Bald win county, Ala. The lands are lo cated between Daphne and Battles on the east ern shore of Mobile bay and officers of the associatin will be here shortly to start things moveing. Twenty-five families will come as soon as preparations are completed, and this number will be increaseb to a hundred by spring. They will engage in trucking, fruit growing and small manufactures.
