I £MF~SoId by Druggists, price 75c I per bottle] HAM AND EGGS. A few days ago in the column I mentioned something concern)i g Edgar L. Wakemaus last story in the Chicago Record But I failed to state the fact that Mr Wake man himself was with the detatcb •’d troops that crossed the Etowah here to join Shermans command. His « nnmawd camped several days where McClure mill now stands. Yesterday Mr, Harry Rawlins received a letter from Mr, akeman recalling a very funny incident that happened to them while in Rome. The young officer in charge was very easily frightened aud imag ined that every noise was the sig nal for an attack from the evening It will be well enough to slate that they < xpectcd the confederate soldiers to drop in ou them at most any moment. Oue morning a number of the soldiers were dowu at the river washing out their clothing It was a quiet peaceful day, aud scarcely any sounds broke the sileuce. Suddenly there were several loud reports in close proximity the camp, and the whole crowd of soldiers rushed pell meli towards the upper portion of the city, They soon discovered the fact that the noises were caused by the explo sion of some gas retorts ai d they sneaked back to the camp rather shamefacedl} 7 . Bat wh> n they returned to ' amps they found trouble in big lots. A large gang of negroes loafed around the soldiers all day, aud wnen Wakeman and his men made their precipitate retreat, the dark ies helped themselves to every thing in sight aud skipped. And they made a clean sweep ot it too, taking clothing, bedding and pro visions. Mr Wakeman walked to Atlanta without a. coat, Thomas Keene the tragedian who will be seen as Hamlet at Nevin Opera House tonight, is rather short of stature athletic, of build, with a strong, clean shav ed face that suggests in a rare way a combination of the classic coun tenance of Napoleon and the joc und, full, virile face of Marc An tony. Mr. Keene keeps his body in excellent tune by constant and regular exercise. He boxes, fences, rides horseback, and walks five m es a day. Mr. Keene is a large eater, a believer in sunshine and good cheer. This regime has giv en his acting that virile quality which his admirers so cherish and lent it that wholesome glow which so warms their enthusiasm. Hamlet, Othello, Shylock, Rich elieu, and Louis XI, were men of strong natures and to keep them strong Mr. Keene feeds them and himself on fresh air and roast beef. Mr. Keene and his excellent supporting company will have the largest audience that has been seen in Rome in some years upon the occasion of their appearance here tonight as the advance sale of seats indicates. Fifty young ladies of Shorter College will at tend the performance in a body. Democrats should take the bit / ter lesson to lieart, that the returns have shown them today. It is by a don’t care kind of apathy that Georgia’s glorious 72.090 majority of two years ago has been cut down close to 30,000. Will men who have the interest of the fair state enshrined in their hearts, see it given over to populist rule, which in the end means the dominance of the party whose principals are antagonistic to the Souths welfare? Democrats be up and doing. THE NEW MARKET We have just opened a new meat market and hereby invite you to call and try our mountain fed beef, pork muttonand other fresh meats. Schlapback &. Curry Druggist INDIVIDUAL INSTRUCTION *i 1 *1 I President Eliot In a recent lecture before the Lowell r Institute uttered these significant words: “ Inatructlon to individuals instead of to Classes is coming to the front. A single special faculty in a mind otherwise dull, detected and trained, may make all the difference between a useful and useless life, I happy and a miserable one.” How better can you detect the particular Beirut of Your Child’s Mind, The special cliannel In whfch his'abillty Iles, than in securing for your home that greates’ of all libraries the ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA, now sot a short time placed within your easy reach ? With these noble books at hand your child will naturally select that line of reading which proves to be in the line of his natural bent, for the BRITANNICA represents every line of study. President Eliot says further: "Individual Instruction has been too costly—that is one reason why it has not been more Universally Adopted” And President Eliot spoke the truth. But be stopped, just a hair’s breadth short of tha whole truth, for he should have added: “ Since the ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA has been brought within reach of any one who can save Ten Centa a day no one need be without individual instruction." No one who has the new edition of the ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA, we say need be without individual instruction. It is a complete education of itself, andean be Obtained now, for a short time, at the unheart of rate of Ten Cents a day.
