The Body of Alex- Richardson cut
Down. Verdict Rendered.
Irvine, Ky., October 10. —Great
crowds this morning viewed the
dangling body of Alexander Rich
ardson, who was lynch'd for the
murder of Mrs. Wylie White. Pin
ned to the corpse was this notice:
“Notice. —You are requested to
leave this body hanging until 9
o’clock. Then his friends can take
him if he has them. This should be
a warning to all such rascals. We
want no meddling in this. Beware !
“Committee.”
About 9 o'clock the Coroner pro
ceeded to summon a jury to hold
an inquest, After viewing the re
mains they returned a verdict that
Alexander Richardson came to his
death by hanging by a mob, “to
us unknown.”
The corpse was lowered to the
ground and conveyed for interment
to a graveyard near his residence.
Few were the attendants to his
resting place.
His aged parents had left their
home yesterday to be in attendance
upon the Court today, but did not
come the entire distance.
They were unaware of the fate
that had befallen their son until
this morning, when, instead of
coming on for the purpose of res
cuing their boy, they returned to
their home to try to console each
otherjin their affliction.
The husband of the murdered
woman was there and said that if
Richardson had been hung from
the bent hickory near the scene of
his wife’s killing he would have
been the more rejoiced . The peo
ple generally express the .belief
that the guilty man has been pun
ished.
THE WHISKY.
In Very Bad Straits-A Crisis
Seems approaching.
New York, Oct. Il. —The finan
cial coi dilion of the distilling and
Catrie Heeding Company has been
very low for a long time. The re
bate scheme was expected to
bring distributors into close rela
tions with the trust and give the
latter a strong h<-ld over such
agents.
It proved a dismal failure and’ a
boomerang in the bargain, and the
holders of rebate certificates are
now in a position where by taking
legal steps to enforce their claims
they will be able to put the com
pany in a very embarrassing posi
tion, even if they fail to bring
about a receivership,
The Chicago correspondent of
Hollister & Babcock informs his
firm that “the Distilling and Cat
tle Feeding Compauy is in sore
straits to meet its rebatejvouchai s
That the company has no mon
ey to pay them is well known.
There are now on deposit with the
Central Trust Company of New
York $2,500,000 first mortgage
bonds to secure payment of the
rebates, and the company would
be glad to take 50 cents on the
dollar for the bonds and apply the
proceeds toward payment of the
rebate vouchers.
In fact ♦ fforts have been quietly
made to dispose of these bonds,
But without success. What the re
sult will be will depend largely
upon whether the holders of rebate
vouchers will press their demands
If they do, some reorganization
of the property seems to be the
only way to clear it of its indebt
edness.” The best thing for the
stockholders of this discredited
company would be a reorganiza
tion with an entirely new manage
ment; whose interest would be out
side of the stock market.
Officials of the Central Trust
Company say that they have no
knowledge of any attempt being
made te float the $2,500,000 of
Distilling bonds which the Cen
tral holds to secure the rebate
vouchers

I have heard it circulated on the
street and considerable kicking done
in covsequerce of the rumor, that
old uncle Felix H rgrov< tie jani
t< r of the Court house, is paid S4O
00 per month and that it comes oui
of the County. Now, I happen t
kn< w positively that the County pays
Felix only SIO.OO per month, and so
appears on the books oi the Connty
Commissioners.
And I happen to know another
thing that most people are ignorant
of, the e'ever whole - fouled officials
n the Court house Each pay Unde
Felix money out of their own pockkit?
ev ry month and make that goo I
olddarkev’s salary cont idei able more
than $lO 00 per month. But I can’t
see that it is any body’s buisiness
but their own.
“Uncle Felix” as everybody calls
him,is a good old “old before de
war, ’’negro, and is liked by every
one that knows him, every one likes
the old fellow for his faithfulness and
rugged honety He is Jgetting old
new but performs his daily duties s
well and conscientiously as if he wsn
a younger man.
It said that those who have seen
pretty little Mabel Paige once, are
sure to go every performance. There
is a charming youthfulness and a
manner that desplays childish inno
cence, tnat makes her friends every
where. Jim Nevin told me yesterday
that she would give two matinees
next wee! - Wednesday and Saturday.
Every lady and child in the city tha 1
caiA attend the night per formancet
should go to these matinees.
The following is clipped from a
chatty column iu the St. louis Re
public, and is about the best one
I have seen in many a day:
“I have a newspaper friend who
is firmly convinced that he is hoo
doed. He never goes anywhere but
something with serious conse
quence happ ens to him.
“A few days ago he was driving
with a young lady whose adorable
manner and charming personality
had completely captivated him rni
whose esteem of and interest in
himself he was most anxious to
arouse. The wind was blowing
with chill suggestions of early
coming frost, and in going out the
young man had got out his light
overcoat.
“After driving a short distance
the fair girl complained of the
effect of the air about her throat.
Her companion remembered that
he had a soft w-hite ninffler in his
overcoat pocket, just the thing for
the occasion, insisted that she
put it round her throa t. She agreed,
and her escort put his hand in his
pocket, felt something, drew it out
and handed it to her—not the
dainty silk thing he thought it to
be, but —a pair of socks.
“They were not new ones, either,
nor freshly laundered, and their
odoriferous accompaniment made
the young man aware that he had
made a blunder before he saw what
he had done.
“The offending footwear was
quickly thrown into the boulevard
and the desired muffler drawn from
the other pocket, but the blunder
could not be remedied nor an ap< 1-
ogy offered that the young lady
would accept, and the victim of
the hoodoo is still swearing ven
geance on the man who invented
pockets, and swears that he will
get even with him in the next
world if he has got to go to the
uttermost limits of Hades to do it.
Blessed he the froets, for they
hav'tf killed the mosquitoes. Any
thing that ean‘ vanquish tins*
dratted pests deserve® the everlast
ing gratitude of everybody. This
frosty weather has caused every one
to get out their last winter's over
coat. Overcoats will not be stylish
this winter and will be little worn
-—that is if you can’t get it out of
the pawn shop where it has lan
guished through ithe sultry sum
mer months, and when your tailor
wont trust you. Suits are worn
thin—at least mine are, and I have
noticed others.
