Dr. Dick Bradley of Folsom spent hisi Wednesday with his brother Dr. Jas. Bradley. Several vs our people were in your city Tuesday. PENSION FRAUD. Unearthed in La v ge Numbers al Scranton Pa. Scranton. Pa., Oct. 18. —Special Examiner Shuker of the pension department, who is here looking into the illeged pension operations conducted by Alvinsia Tillinghast, who ran a pension claim office in Hyde Park, reports the unearthing of twenty-five fraudulent cases. Tillinghast is found to have op erated extensively in getting through claims that had repeated ly ’ailed. His work was revealed by the complaint of Deborah Boughton, a widow of South Scran ton, who charged Tillinghast with withholding a large portion of back pension granted to her, and which he paid over in small items. Affidavits on in nsio i cla ms were made before Alderman Morgan, two West Side business men being used as witnesses. . They declared tliey signed no such petitions, and that their names were forged. Tillinghast fled to Binghampton when Exami ner Shuker began his investiga tions. Later he was heard from at Buffalo, and is now believed to be in Canada. His operations are be lieved to have netted him a large sum. DEFENDED HERSELF. A Knoxville Woman Fatally Shoots a Railroad Man. Knoxville, Tenn. , Oct. 18.— Thomas Fogarty, a Southern rail way fireman, was shot and fatally wounded by Mrs. Lyde Rhodes just after midnight. Fogarty attempted to enter tb e woman’s house and had kicked the door down, when she opened fire on him with a heavy calibre revolv er. Mrs. Rhodes was arrested, but gave bond.
