And the Proper use of This great work Will make Os him an Educated man. THE MEEK AND LOWLY. The Populists in Schley county adopted the most disgraceful meth ods to secure the colored vote. On the night before the election in a portiotj of the county known as a Third party stronghold, the Popu lists gave a barbecue and festival, and sent wagons to every portion of the county for negroes. At this place they caroused all night, and by morning a large proportion of she negroes were drunk, and in this condition they were induced to go to the polls. How is this for the party of pure methods, who condemn the acts of the “two old parties? ’ In Jackson county they hauled two car loads of negroes from Clark county and voted them at Newtown precinct ou the Northeastern rail road . The Populists of Jackson county don’t deny this. —Gaines- ville Eagl“. In the recent election in this county there is no G< übt that the populists voted al out 800 illegal voters. It is asserted by some of the best men in the county, that num' era .of men from oth r coun— a ties, brought n« o the county by the wagou oad, voted, some of them, maybe two or three limes Little if any, regard was paid to a tax defau I ter. The poor, igronant n«gro who had p tid no taxes for years was en couraged to swear against tax fi fas, that he had paid all taxes. Li ttle or no attention, was paid to the age or time of residence in the county—Barnesville Gazette The Harris county grand jury is investigating illegal voting in the late election. Il is charged that fully SCO tax defaulters voted the Populist ticket. Quite a number ot true bills have already been found. In one of the Hart county dis tricts it is said that the populibts put men’s clothes on negro women and voted them. Register. Tomorrow is your last day. Go and register. See to it that you register to night or tomorrow. While the “maykawder” is at war and the Zar continues to die, the Kayzer is writing poetry. The Chicago Herald remarks that Bob Ingersoll continues to de nounce God and the democratic party. Both can stand it. Go to tax collector Black’s office a nd get your name on the list and l.e in shape to put in a solid vot e for John W. Maddox and bonds. The Marietta Journal is not on ly for that peerless, fearless hust ling democrat, John W. Maddox, but it is hard at work for him. The Macon City Council hasrecot sidered its action and will not per mit saloons to keep open house all night during the big fair. Tnatsja .deal better. It was an Augusta negro who having 11 children, went off and kom mi ted suicide when his wife presented him with twins. For hinl, 13 was an unlucky number. If a man is seen walking to his of fice these day sin Savannah while the rate war is going on between the car lines, one of two conditions exists— he lacks seuse or cents, for the man with cents rides j Athens Banner. Dr. Fe’tou fought, bled and died as it were four years ago in trying to defeat what he then termed the dtiYk lantern party. The Doctor is now toting the biggest lantern in the whole business. — Buchauan Banner. For once Macon can laugh at Atlanta, and it is not base ball season, either. The former has had an interesting fair and the later — oh, well, she has the Georgia Leg islature to contend with.—Alba ny Herald Harry Hill has told a friend that he will not enter society again when ha gets out of the pin. be cause society is what ruined him. i Tl ia decision is probably a com pact between Harry and Lord Bersford—Brunswick Times. Gov. Fowler says that he believes that tbe New York Democracy wil] win '•hands down,” but perhaps yon noticed that he immediately there after put his hands in his jeans and handed over s’2 000 to the campaign fun That kind of “hands down’ may win,but t’other won’t. At leant not tli< trip —Lynchburg Advance. , Occasionally, there seem to be , spasmodic efforts to boost .Capt. Bradwell for re-appointment to the i position of State School JCommis sioner. We would hardly guess however that there is any possi bility of liis re-appointment, and feel sure that the teachers of the t State, would make no protest, • whatever, if he were not. —Coluin- i bus Ledger. And Bill Clifton turns down i Henry Cabaniss in his race for the ) S scretaryship of the Senate. This 11 seems to be the year in which the E ‘‘Bills”are being honored. —Ath- t ens Banner. Bill Clifton is another one the r Hustler of Rome’s “mark that f prediction” candidates. One by one, they each and dl“get there” THE HUSTLER OF ROME, FRIDAY OCTOBER, 26 1894. O, beautiful isle of mem rv, light- I ed by the morning star of life! where ■ the roses bloom by the door, where the robins sing among the apple blos soms, where bright water ripple in eternal melody. Therelare echoes of tongs that are sung no more, tender words spoken by lips that are dust blessing 8 from hearts that are still There’s a useless cradle, a broken doll a sunny dress, ai d m empty garment folded away. There’s a lock of silver ed hair and an unforgotten prayer, and mother is sleeping there*—Bob Taylor in Visions and Dreams. Editor Glessner bo'dly announc es that Phil Byrd, of the Hustler of Rome, will be made a Georgia colonel, with headquarters in the saddle, as a member of the govern or’s staff. —Brunswick Times. Glessner’e “boldness” is only surpassed by his wonderful fund of ‘"Hass.” When we get to be a Colonel we will tender the boys of the Fourth Estate a Military ball and furnish Champaign—“after the hall is over.” The memb *r from Possum Trot precinct was “swored in” along with the balance of the Legislators at high noon, today. He will be heard from the first time any rail road legislation begins.—Columbus Ledger. You betcherlife. We are in fa vor of free passes, free trade and free licker, just like “white folks” are in favor of free Salvation.— Possum Trot Gazette. Secretary Carlisle has made public the decision of the attorney general on Floyd county’s propos ed issue of bonds. It is, that they can be circulated as currency, but must pay 10 per cent, tax in like manner as the issue of State banks —Brunswick Call. Not so —Mr. Car Lisle only mads public “one” of the Attorney Gen eral ’s opinions. The other one is ‘the” one county will act on. The Marietta Journal hits the spike on the cranium in this “P P.”—pungent paragraph : Parson Eelton’s course in his present populistic campaign of abuse and slander against democ racy will disgust every self-respect ive white man in his district. And only a year or two ago he was mak ing loud boast of his rehabilitated democracy. EXPELLEE every poisor impurity oi your blood, by Dr. £&& Fierce’s Golder.
