HAM AD EGGS Where iii the nan eof common ■ sense did you get that ridiculous mine for that column of stuff you I write —“Hamand Eggs?’’ I have been asked some 11,111 times. 1 I can oiler but one explanation—just because I wanted a heading for a gossip column that no other man ever wrote under, and I am sure I have it in the black line at the top ot this. Besides, I do not get any breakfast and when I coms to the oflice mornings I am as hungry as lean be. So I sit down and feast on j “ham and eggs” for a while. See? The Armstrong hotel presented an appearance something like the lobby of the Kimball in Atlanta, during political gatnerings. Many strangers were there, and local pol iticians, people who went down to hear the music of Ford’s orchestra, and the ordinary loafers were all on hand. Dr. Marshall by his clev er and courteous bearing, and with a capable clerk has made the Armstrong one of the most popu lar hotels in the state. Cary King, the high clerk of the Armstrong swallowed a few thou sand eubic feet of gas last evening and then got up and attended to his duties as fresh as a daisy. No, he didn't blow out the gas light— you know Cary has been in the hc -14 long enough to know better - but there was a leaky burner in his room. Cary says that gas tastes nasty. But wasn’t there kicking, kick ing, kicking all over town last night—especially in the business center. The electric light plant slipped a cog somewhere and the incandescent lights looked about ; like glow worms. I heard many unkind things said about tl e “whole blankety, blankety sys tem. ” Those kind of things ars lia ble to happen, however, and this company did all they could o straighten things out. But it is calculated to rile a man toattemj t to write or read by a light that the stars would throw in the shads. There was trouble, great palpi tating wads of it in the Tribune office last night. Alf Harper raved and tore his hair, and went out on the roof and .wrote leading edito rials by the sky-light— ah ! Gordon Hiles got so disgusted that he went home and forgot his griefs in in sleep. Oh, it was a terrible scene enacted in this great city last night, aud the electric lights grew dim and misty with fear. 3u|t the question was solved at last by tiip JfpgTLER of Rome shedding its light wq the situation—fifty bor rowed our Iftiupfi, you know. Next Tuesday we vote on two important subjects. First: Shall John W. Maddox succeed himself for eongressman from the bloody seventh? Now I dont think there are many people—not even the populist#—foolish enough to be lieve that he won’t stay in Wash ington another two years. But that isn’t the point, the majority wants to be so large that we can call atteniton to it with pride. Let every good democrat, or better, ev ery man who favors sound politics and a just man, turn out next Tuesday and vote for John W. Maddox. The second question, and one of vital importance to Floyd county, is bonds. If you want to see the county in fine financial trim, and ease your own taxes, vote for bonds. Don’t be a clam and stay at home. If you area man and expect to ex ercise your rights of citizenship, go and vote—if not for bonds, someway. But every man with any just appreciation of the situa tion will let his ticket read “For Bonds.” Every mother should know that croup can bi prevented. The first symptom of trne croup is horse-, neee. This is followed by a peculi ar routsh cough. If Chamberlains Cough Remedy is given freely as soon as the child becomes hoarse or even after the cough has develon. ed it will prevent the attack. 2 ' and 50 cent bo ftTe for sale by j Lowry & Bro.
