THE HUSTLER OF ROME MONDAY NOVEMBER 5 1894,
IN HIS UNDERSHIRT.
Story of an Indiana Man. 5135 and
a Den/er Chinese Laundry.
Denver, Col., v ov. 5.—E. D.
Banks of LaPorte, Ind, - is perhaps
the luckiest man who has sojourn
ed in Denver for many moons.
Banks stopped ©IT here Wednesday
while on a trip to Loa Angeles ai d
visited the laundry at 1860 Lari
mer street, conducted by the broth
ers Sing, Ah and Sam.
Here he deposited considerable
soiled clothing including an under
shirt in which, before leaving the
Hoosier state, Backs’ wife thought
fully placed a cunning little pock
et.
This fulfilled -t'he function of a
national bank. And.• very thump of
that LaPorte man "a heart jostled
$135 in greenbacks. His cash, how
ever, was thoughtlessly deposited
with hie underwear with the broth
ers Sing, whose saffron-hued fin
gers dexterously abstracted the
wad of green.
It was precisely 1 o'clock last
night when Banks, awakening from
a rural dream, missed his cash. He
proceeded directly t« the laundry,
rudely disturbing the pleasure of
an opium smoke, but recieved as
much satisfaction as if he had dug
in Cherry creek to recover his lost
treasure.
This morning, armed with a
search warrant from Justice Wood
son’s court, Detsctive Shirley raid
ed Sing’s laundry and tossed
around a choice aseortment of lin
gerie. Finally his eyes detected
B«>i ks’ greenbacks carefully roileu
up and placed among a lot of damp
clo» hs.
Tiie roll contained ail except $lO

Sing will produce. The disc.very
will not liberate Ah and Saninn
Sing, who will ev n'ua ly clean

SENEY SAYINGS.
But Little Cotton Will be Planted
in Howell’s Next Year.
Seney, Ga., Nov. 5. —Old Moth
er Stricklin was buried at Pleas
ant Hope church last Sunday eve
ning. Mrs. Stricklin was some
where in her ninties, and is said
by all who knew her, to be of a
peacable and quiet temperament.
A kind and tender mother and de
voted member of the Missionary
Church.
She leaves several children,
grandchildren, great, and great
great grandchildren to mourn her
departure.
Old Mrs. Summers, cf Nickel
town, is having a tedious siege of
sickness. We are fearful she will
never recover.
Mr. Bill Cohran is traveling day
and night in search of his run-a
way bov who misteriously disap
peared last Sunday while at
church.
Bill says: “Barthy has dud god
crazy od aconnt od it ad he rather
fide the child thad to’havea hud
derd dollars in gold id his pock
ed.”
It is not his own child but a boy
he reared from a small child up to
16 years old; his name is Charley
Hunt.
Our farmers are generally un
der the spirit of reformation at
present. They have resolved not to
plant more than five acres of cot
ton to the horse and use no com
mercial fertilizer at all.
Right in this immediate vicinity
1 don’t believe there will be a sin
gle ton of guano used next spring;
and some of our large farms are
rented out with a specified con
tract that there is to be no cotton
planted on the place at a 11. They
will turn them into grain farms
altogether.
