MS s hmpanY 23BROAD ST, ROME GA. swwiai rae Nothing in This World 7s so cheap as a newspaper, whether it be measured by the cost of its production or by its value to the consumer. We are talking about an American, metropolitan, daily paper of the first class like THE CHICAGO RECORD. It’s so cheap and so good you can’t afford in this day of progress to be without it. There are other papers possibly as good, but none better, and none just like it. It prints all thb real news of the world—the news you care sor —every day, and prints it in the shortest possible space. You can read THE CHICAGO RECORD and do a day’s work too. It is an independent paper and gives all political news free from the taint of party bias. In a word —it’s a complete, condensed, clean, honest family newspaper, and it has the largest morning circulation in Chicago or the west—l2s,ooo to 140,000 a day. Prof. J. T. Hatfidd of the Northwestern University says: CHICAGO RECORD Gomes as near being the ideal daily jour nal as we are for some time likely to find on these mortal shores. ” Sold by newsdealers everywhere, and sub scriptions received by all postmasters. Cave Spring, Ga., Nov. 6. — Yesterday afternoon the ginnery and saw mill of Mr. John Foster, near Cave Spring, was destroyed by fire. Tw’enty-two bales of cotton were comumed with the gin. It was a water power gin. Fire caused by match being in cotton. No in surance. Tip for Touches. Tie man who must have se« n better days, if he had seen veiy many, approached the desk nearest the door and said in a soft, apolo getic way: “I beg your pardon.” The City Collector turned sharp ly in his chair and said: “What can I do for you?” “Would you be kind enough to f'vor me witn enough morey to pay so a slight luncheon?” “Luncheon, eh?” “Yes, sir.” “Be seated.” The “toucher” slid into the chair as if frightened by such a welcome and remarked that he didn’t like to intrude. The city buyer pulled from his pocket sev eral coins and counted out 35 cents in silver. “1 think that will be enough,” he said. “Thankyou, sir; I—” “If you had asked for enough to get something to eat I should have given you 10 cents. If you had vulgarly asked for the price of a meal I should have given you 15 cents. If you had expressed a pref erence for lunch you should have received 20 cents. But luncheon is worth 35 cents at any good restau rant, so I hand you that amount. Will you kindly excuse me now? I have some work to do.” The man looked at him blankly and then moved away as swiftly as his limp would allow. /7”A’ QUITE A STEI A • u f’ - om the gretet, griping, dreadful ntU- to Doctor Pierce’s Pleasant I'el -U l cts - See what an ad si vuuce there is: VySS ‘ v These little Pellets. Hand and hand with the Chautauqua movement goes the University Extension plan, which provides university instruction in the homes of students whose means will not allow ! them to pursue their studies at the university Both of these plans have been productive of good results and have steadily grown In favor I Not Less flmportant than the recognized Chautauqua and University Extension studies are those of many who have found It imperative to keep up with the times by specializing the studies of spare hours and yet could not comply with the requirements of the Chautauqua methods as regards regularity of hours. As an aid to such studies the Encyclopaedia Britannica distances all competitors. To possess it is to have the authoritative utterances of 1200 of the world’s foremost scholars and thinkers, whereas the study of any single text-book on a subject often requires to be supplemented by search for details in many other books.
