THE HUSTLER OF ROME.THURSDAY NOVEMBERS 1894, NIR, HAYNES Ths Young Mind Reader Gives Oth er Remarkable Tests of his Power Again yesterday afternoon and last uifcjht did Chas. Hnynee cauet the peoph |ogpsin \o i ’.er,at his marvelous powers of wind read i rg. I'he test yesterday evening were fully as remarkable at d ditlien 1 s the one the day before. A committee composed of Rev, John Bale, Mr. Mullen, Mr. R. T. Connally ;and others took an or dinary brass pin and driving around back of the Rome Hard ware Company’a store, drove ThTr pin in a post, I’hey then drove around to Rich ards & Lansdell, store and bl eed the pm on the inside lining of Mr Lanedellcoat. Then Mr. Haynes, blindfolded, drove to to the place where ll e pm had been thrust in the post and placed his fingers directly over the hole. He then want over the same route and going to Mr. Lansdell, took the pm from where it had been placed. There were a number of people in the crowd, who were skeptical at first, as to Mr Haynes ability io read the mind, and claimed it tobeatrickuf soma kind. But they were converts to his power after he had carried out this test to the letter. A more remarkable performance was given by Mr. Haynes in Crouch’s drug stora. Dr. Will Johnson v rote a preemp tion, which Beuard Hile photo graphed on his mind. Theu Mr. Haynes again blindfolded, took Mr Hale’s baud and tilled the prescription as well as any drug gist could have done. He found the different ingredi ents, weighed the powders and measured the liquids as accurately as any one could have done. He carefully compounded the whole. It was rather a strange thing that Mr Haynes had such a sjn.al house last night, after the splendid advertising he has had But if his audience was small it was a ve»y appreciative one. On ’the stage last night were Col. Alex ander, Col. Childs, J. H. Spullock, W. H. Ennis. Henry Hines, Alf Harper, Frank Evans and others. The mind-reader gave many re markable tests of his strange and peculiar power. Such as finding any object thought of by the gen tieman whose hand he had hold of etc. He successfully carried out the registerjtest which cost the cele brated mind-reader, Mr. Bishop, his life The committee took an old Armstrong register, selected a name, and then blindfolded Mr. Haynes. He first tried with Col. Childs and failed as he did with Frank Evans. But when he took Mr. Hen ry Hines’ hand, he at once opened the register and in a few seconds found the name. In numerous other tests he car ried them out to the letter. Every body that has seen Mr. Haynes are thoroughly convinced of his abili ty to photograph another’s mind on his own. He says that when he is going through these performances he is simply the passive agent of anoth er man’s mind, and that he simply fol’ows the promptings of his agent thoughts. He cannot explain why, but his acts are all mechanical He has indeed dispelled the doubts in many minds here, as to the genuineness of his powers.
