FRIDAY NOVEMBER 16. 1894 KLUSTER OF BULLS EYE SHOTS Its amusing to me to now and occasionally cross the trail of a very politic ’‘very, very good man” and so called Simon pure democrat, wh*n under cover of the mails he loaps with the most rabid of the third party gang. Such a “Euriah Heap” may fool himself, aud he may fool a few meek and lowly of the wild eyed pops, but he will never fool a man of ordinary sense, be he democrat or populist. ‘‘Honesty is the best policy,” even if you be bon ist on ly for policy’s sake. * * * I notice that Jamison Bros, the Broad Street bakers have sold out thwir busineue to M r Charley Stoff r&gau and will leav* in a few days for Mississippi, their old home, ihe Jamisons by diligence and perseverance have built up a good •'U"ii.6P«and in leaving Rome will tied tha' they leave a city full of friends, who regret to have them go but who wish them abundant success iu their new field of busi Dess. * * * Mr. Charley Stoffragen, the new proprietor of the Jamison Bakery is not an amateurnn the business. Nor is he a stranger to the bread eaters and pie censumers of Rome. He proposes to bunch accomplish ments and make Rome one of the best caterers she has ever known. * * * Mr. A. TV. Ballew has just re turned from Atlanta where he went to attend a motion for a new trial in his pension case before the Uni ted States court. The bearing was set for the 15th, but as the court is busy, engaged in the trial of Ro per’s assassins and other cases of “white capping,” the case may not be heard for several days, perhaps weeks. ll seems that the negro witnesses, who testified against Mr. Ballew, have skipped out for California or some other seaport town. All in all. Mr. Ballew is very sanguine of the ficr. e ' arinc. * * * I notice that old Flopper Felton, in a card replying to Hon. Gu« Fite, uses an expression which puts Floyd and Richmond in the same boat. »o far as the election retuns in the last race are concerned. I had, and yet have, mv opinion about the return* trom Richmond, wherea bout 16,000 votes are turned on’ by a county ol aboutso, ooo in habitans. * * * But here in Floyd, where less than 2,400 votes were polled out *of a population like our-, wby when Dr. Felton insinuates a thing like what may or may not be true in Richmond county, why he brands himseif a wilful liar of the first magnitude. All in all the election iu Floyd County was as fair as was held in the state and was a peer to any that was held in coun tie.- where the meek aud lowly pops flourish like green bay steeri. The aged Flopper should confine him self to f acte when he talks about Floyd LOST, STRAYED OR STOLEN, From my residence 2 1 O E. 4th St. A small black and tan terrier pup. Oakland, Ten.-. , Nov.,l6. —While Jfff Raynor an-4 hie wife, who live near Oakland, were picking cotton this afternoon, their home caught fire trom the burning grass and burned to the ground n a few minutes. In the flumes peri h d their three cui'dren. aged eight, five and two years. The fire had progressed so far when the parents I'ached home that they could not enter, but they could see that tie flunrhad burned through and the b>d of th» eldest child ha 1 fallen to the ground below. Believes in Cotton. Marietta, Ga., November 15. A farmer in Gritter district last year made six bales of cotton. This year he made fourteen bales on the same acreage of land —an increase of eight bales. He says he will make more money this year on cotton at 5 cents than he did last year at 7 cents. Three thou sand pounds last year at 7 cents brought him $2lO. His 7,000 pounds this year at 5 cents will bring him $350. He has also made enough provisions, meat, corn, po tatoes and syrup, to do him. Gin and Mill in Ashes. Kennesaw, Ga. Nov. 10. —The machinery plant of T. J. Hardage ifcCo., of this place including gins, sawmills, cotton and corn crusher and grist mill were destroyed by fire Monday aft*rno®n. This gin was supplied with all modern improvements and the loss is heavy. There was no insu r ance. The fire was caused by the striking of a match. Eire At Shellman. Cuthbart, Ga., Novmbor 16. — The residence of Mr. J. S. Wil liams, iu Shtllman, wng burned at 2 o’clock this mor.iing. The fire prebably origuated from a defective fiue. Tiie family narrowly eecaped. The residence wn quite handgume. Very little was saved. A Dalton young man recently advertized for a wife, and it so happened that his sister answered the adversisement. The young man now thinks that advertising doesn't pay, while the old folks think it prettv tough that they have two such fools in the family. How al o it it, Bro. Shaver? —Cedartov n Standard.
