Failing to Strangle he was in the £ct of Using a Razor. Denver, Colo., November 20. — Another nuspect lute been secured by the peace in their search for tiie strangler of Market street wom en. Mario V« mires lives at 1390 Twentieth street, two doors from the corner ot Market street, and is of the same class as Marie Contas soit. She was alone in her front room last night at 11 o’clock, when a man named Moller entered at the street door. Having seen him be fore, sne invited him to an inner r >oiu. A few minutes later Moller be gan a quarrel with her about a money transaction, and. without the least warning seized her by L he throat. He pressed his hands tight ly upon her windpipe, and squerz ed so hard that the woman was not i able to utter a sound. While she lav upon the bed, with the breath stifl'd in her Im g«, Ma rie Vendres had but one thought — that the man engaged in cliojking her was the man who had Idl'd Lehn Tapper,M ari ■ Contm-s it > i.U Kikn O’Yama. The tear that their fate wou’d b> hers nerved her to a still more ue« perate struggle against her asß> i -tut She is a woman of most pow erlul bui'd, and making one su preme effort, she thrust h»»r knees against Moller’s body, giving him a mighty push that threw hitn up on the floor. Her throat ONCE FREE FROM THE GRIP Os the strangler, Marie Vendres used her lung power to its full ex tent. She screamed. Murder! in alter nate French and English, and her cries reached the ears of her hus band, Chailes Vendres, who hap pened to be at the rear of the nouse. He rushed in just in time to catch Moller in ths act of using a razor upon Marie Before Moller could use the weapon Charles Vendres seized him, and a struggle began between the two men. The woman rushed into the street with screams of “He'p!” and ‘‘Murder!” Deputy Sheriffs S. Bell and G. Pe’erson, who were doing special .guard duty over the terriffed deni zens of ‘Stranglers’ Row,” heard the outcry and ran past Marie Ven dres into the room, where they found the two men rolling over and over on the floor, kicking and pummelling each other. Moller was only half clad, -and • appeared to bo wildly excited. He fought with the deputies in the house and out to the sidewalk. They placed Moller in a hack and conveyed Ifim to the County Jail, where he was locked upon a charge ] x of assault to murder. 3 On the way to the jail Moller's only reply to every question ask ’ ed him was: ‘‘All right. Marie ’ Vendres and her neighbors firmly believe that Moller is the genuine “Jack the Strangler.” The affair of last night has add ed to the terror and excitement of the women on “Stranglers’Row,’ ' and its probable effect will he to ■ cause more migrations form that i unlucky neighborhood.
