Grave Robbing.
■Chattanoogo, Tenn,., Nov. 20.
For several months grave robber
ee have been frequent in the pot
ters’ field, but it was not until to
day that sufficient evidence wa 8
obtained to justify the Arrest of
any one.
From the fact that a robbery
was committed Saturday night,
however, of a pauper buried that
day, and the fact that William
Hurst, formerly assistant sexton,
had been about the place, he was
arrested this morning on the
eharge of body snatching.
He will be tried tomorrow. One
of Chattanooga’s prominent phy
sicians is implicated, ano may be
arrested at any moment.
WILL LECTURE.
Breckinridge has Signed a Con
tract to go on The Platform.
Lexington, Ky., Nov. 20. —Col-
I onel Breckinridge said tonight that
'he would eat his Thanksgiving
dinner with his daughter in Staun
ton, Va., and after spending a few
days there, wauld go on to Wash
ington to attend Congress.
He has made another contract,
however, which will come in the
nature of a surprise to those who
know that nearly all the theater
managers in the country have re
fused dates to Madaline Pollard.
The Colonel is going on the lec
ture platform under the manage
ment of C. D. Hess, who has made
such a success with General Basil
Duke, the chief lieutenant of Gen
eral Morgan.
As Colonel Breckinridge was also
in General Morgan’s command, he
can paint battle scenes and give
reminiscences of the war which
will attract attention everywhere.
The Colonel would say noth
ing about his lecturing tour, leav
mg all the talking to Mr. Hess.

part they took in a football game
in the college dining-room last
night, in which a large number of
panes of window glass were shat

One of the pirls said she thought
it was a cruel shame the girls
could not play football, the same
as the hoys. Some of her friend*

When lights weie out last night

had a very fast game, as the place

with pieces of cress goods and the
like.
Three of the gir s whose face

Japan’s Demands.
Shanghai, Nov., 20. —In diplo
matic circles here, the success of!
mediation between China and Ja
pan is regarded as hopeless. It is
rumored that Japan’s minimum
demands are the surrender of Hie
Chinese fleet and the payment of
an indemnity of $125,000,000, Ja
pan to occupy Port Arthur, Wei-
Hai-Wei and the Formosan ports
until the indemnity has been paid.
There is no prospect of China’s as
senting to such terms.

East Liverpool, Ohio, Nov. 19.
Last night half a dozen of the
congregation of the Second Meth
odist Episcopal Church were in a
serious condition, as the result of
partial asphyxiation from escap
ing gas at this mornings service.
Plumbers were at work in the
church Saturday night and left a
defective fitting in the natural-gas
pipes in the church.
Yesterday morning the church
was well filled. Toward the close
of the service several present be
came s’ck, and were compelled to
Lave the church, but no one knew
the cause.
After the pastor, Rev. R. S.
Sears, pronounced the benediction,
he attempted to step down from
the pulpit and fell on* his face. He
was carried home.
