We feel thankful and we know ‘ ‘the preach ers are welcome. ”. THE REUNION. The Masons had a IGrand Time Last Night. The Masonic Reunion at their temple last night was a big tuc teee, Masons from many neighboring towns and cities were present. A number of the ministers attending conference were also present. Gen, Evans honored the reunion with his presence and made a fine speech. A number of the local and visit ing masons made talks and alto gether the evening was a most de-| lightful one. A splendid banquet was spread | during the evening and heartily enjoyed by ail. Amons the visiting masons were the following: Cave Spring —Prof. W. 0. Con nor and F, A. Glenn. Calhoun —'I'. M. Whitworth, who last Wednes day assassinated Chai eellor Alli son and then attempted suicide, died early this morning. Mr. Whitworth has been con scious throughout, but his physi cians have never had any hope. Only one time S’nce he was taken home has he asked at out his con dition, and then he said he would like to get well. Just after he shot himself he begged for a revolver that he might finish himself. He realized his ap proaching end, and called for his father and mother just before his death, and holding up his hands said: “I am passing over.” Th n he sank to rest. Webb was at a piano and had just finish ed the song, “The Ship That Never Beturns,” when the fatal bullet from the revolver struck him in the left side. His stomach and in testines wer pierced and he died withiu a few moments. He has a family at Toledo, Ohio. HE BLEW OUT THE GAS. When Found Mr. Carter was Near ly Dead-He Will Recover. Jacksonville, Fla , Nov. 23.- Syd L. Carter, one of the repre sentatives in the Florida legisla ture from Alachua county, was found half dead in his bed at the Tremont house in this city this morning at 9 o’clock. The chamber maid opened the door with her pass key to put ths room in order and found Carte; apparently asleep in bed and a strong odor of gas in the room. One of the stopcocks was half | turned on.
