Wouldni’t it be glory for all the Feltons, if the head of the tribe could only die in Congress and ’e buried with the pomp and glory iis rank and at i the nation’s expense. Don’t try it doctor, but make up your mind to tough it out under the skillful treatment of your family’ physi cian. * * » There’s one man that the masses have made up their minds to ele vate, else I am no judge of public sentiment. That man is sturdy, loyal, honest, efficient and clever J. P. McConnell. M.r. McConnell has served deputy under that horn sheriff and natural public servan’, Jake C. Moore, and has made friends of all classes. Brave as a lion and gentle as a lamb, “Mack” is a “good fellow” because he is governed by the natural impulse of a generous heart and the steady purposes of a life whos foundation is built on the rock of right. He will be Floyd’s next sheriff and will make the “Banner County” a model officer, “Mark that prediction.” * * * This Hustler of Rome does not believe in extortion, and hence can’t afford to demand of candi dates for the office of baliff $lO for a little announcement card. THIS IS “CHEEKY.” Congressmen Who Will Stay at Home ask for Their Mileage. Washington, Nov 27.—o ver twentyfive memders of congress, it is said, have written letters to the sergeant-at-arms of the house asking that their mileage for this session be forwarded to them, as they do not wish to come to Wash ington this winter. Replyes have been sent that no mileage can be paid 1g members, except to those who actually attenb the sesaion of congress Jn nearly every luefance the request has been perf rred by a memb -r, and i ; ind cat's a small attendance of that cl Set I • si.o-t s i'U 'bis vlute . He was t..< < 1 i.ig! fond of a “bit of the Crath. ■"!•.” One day htuijiiuck up with an Irish se'iion hand, who had ju-4 it'ceivcd his monthly’ wages. Arp and the Irishman proceeded to get gloriously drunk and in a burst of affectionate gratitude for the booze A'p invited his friend home witii him to spend the night. They started out and it was with great difficulty that they made any progress at all. Suddenly Arp be came sober enough to remember that he had but one room to his huuse, and could not accommodate the the Irishman. Here was a terrible state of af fairs. He began to think how he could get out of the scrape. He thought long and seriously, and at lust hit upon the only’ thing he thought reasonable. He determin ed to pick a quarrel with his friend and whip him. He proceeded to put his pla s into execution but there was a slip in the proceedings. Instead of whipping the Irishman, that ge- ; tieman administered a sound ana serve drtib’ b g to Arp. The If -1 .man carried him h< m and iihiF d him for three day s, and Arp afterwards said that fee was the 1 est company he ever had. I Tais is a true incident. There was a lively, but perfect- ' ly good natured exchange of wit . this morning between Dr. Can dler and Dr Tigert, two brainy and brilliant men. Dr. Tigert was speaking, and mentioued the fact that he was ap pointed by the Bishop, to do some work which properly belonged to Dr. Candler. It was to attend some meeting in Kansas City, and he said that he was seut, not be cause Dr. Candler was.,not compe tent, but because the Dr. didn’t want to go. After he had finished, Dr. Can dler got up and made the follow ing statement. He said that he had been appointed to go, but had received a letter from Tigert, which was in substance about as follows—the exact words are not quoted but are pretty’ near the same. “Dr Candler, you have been appointed to this duty, and my self as alternate. Now I am 200 miles nearer, and have prepared a good speech, and as it is much father for you to go, don't you think it better for me to attend.” Dr. Candler said that under such circumstances he could df, nothing else bnt let Tigert go. Dr. Tigert then said: “I thank Dr. Candler for his apologies.” It was a fine exchange of hu mor between these two brilliant men, and was heartily enjoyed by every one. REGISTRATION NOTICE.
