THE HUSTLER o'~ ~OME WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 28 1894, JACK THE RIPPER. iie is Said to bs Confiiiiti in a Lunatic Asylum. London, November 27. —“Jack the Ripper. ’’ whoso horrible butch eries att acted the attention of the world a few years ago, is said to be confined in a certain English lunatic asylum, where for three years lie has been locked up, at times in a straight-jacket. Th“ authority for this statement is Dr. Forbes Winslow, the most celebrated insanity expert in the United Kingdom. Thd revelation h particularly interesting just now, as it sets at naught the theo ry held by many people in London that the series of murders recently committed in Denver were done by the same hand that horrified Lon don and defied Scotland Yard. Dr. Winslow says, and there is no reason to doubt his statement, as he would have nothing to gain by making it, that just before the Whitechapel murders were perpe trated he received a letter from a stranger, in wlvch the writer said : “You will hear of me in a few days.” The letter was signed “Jack the Ripper.” I übsequently Dr. W: - slow received a number of similar; letters, and when the last Wh? . chapel murder took place his un - known correspondent called at his office the next day and said that having completed his mission he desired ti.i be treated for nerv s ness. I man was r to a lunatio asv iim I through tbeefforis of Dr. Winslow, who stipulated that this should be done » Leu he took itie iinthoriin-s into his cobfi'Tei’ce. The m>U'’ t identity was effectually concc.i] d at the time and cannot be ascei tained now because of Dr. Winslow's dislike of notoriety and hie desire to live up to th? etand arde of the medical profession. But in other respects his story is such as to'Eive i f cadence. MISTAKEN FOR OFFICERS Three Citizens of Brookside, Ala,, Shot From Ambush.
