APPOINTMENTS Os the Nonh Georgia Conference have been made. ft COMPLETE LIST Is Published Below. Rome is Peculiarly Fortunate in Se curing Such Able and Eloqueut Ministers for Next Year. The appointments are made! The proceedings last right were decidedly the most interesting of the Conference. As early as 6 o’clock people commenced going to the church and by 7 every avail able space down stairs and in the gallery was packed with eager, ex pectant humanity. Fvery one was anxious to know wno would come here, where tkj present ministers would go, anol all of the different changes. Os the three principal churches here, all are filled with new ministers. Dr. J. T. Gibson, the pastor of the First church the past year is made presiding elder of the La Grange district, while Rev. S, .R Balk, of Gainesville, Uomesin his place. The people had an oppor tunity of hearing him preach y®s terday afternoon at 3o’clock. He is an able preacher and is sure to please all here. Rev. G. W. Duvall, the well known pastor of the Second church goes to Carrollton. Mr. Duvall has endeared himself to every one in Rome, by his earnest Christian hearing. Rev.C. B. These were the appointments an nounced from the executive de partment yesterday, and they com plete Governor Atkinson’s official househo’d. Tire appointment of Major Warren and Judge Richard Johnson as secretaries and Major Frank Calloway as private secre tary and Mr. C. B. Conyers as clerk and stenographer in the ex ecutive department had preceded those that were announced yester day. Os these the name of Professor Pollock was sent to the senate with a batch of other appointments, his being the only one of the state house officers requiring confirma tion at the bauds of the senate, and, while there has been no for mal order appointing Major Guinn to the position which he has so capably filled ay assistant state school commissioner, the informa tion comes from the newly ap pointed commissioner that the of; fice hr '•> been tendered to Major Guinn, and he will doubtless ac cept it. Os Professor Pollock, the State School Commissioner the Consti tution has this to eay: Professor Pollock possesses all the qualifications requisite to suc cess at the head of the educational department of the state. There is. perhaps, no man connected with education in Georgia who ranks higher as a scholar and education. Brought up iu the public school, a graduate of the University ol Georgia, for several years in active service as a teacher in the public schools after that a postgraduate course in some of the great univer sities of Europe, and this supple mented by active work us a mem ber of the faculty of Mercer uni versity—a man young, vigorous ano progressive, he will doubtless prove the right man in the right place as State School Commission er.
