EVADES HIS PERSURERS
Miss Willie, the Brave little
Woman Whos shot gun

lives and honorof her
mother and sister.
Newnan, Ga., Dec. 4—Joe Dean,
the fiend who slaughtered old man
Leigh Saturday night, is still at
large and the horrible crime is yet
unavenged.
No clue has yet been obtained
to the negro and many are now
apprehensive of his complete es
cape. There are some reasons for
believeing that after he crossed the
river hw mounted a horse and if
that be true he had abundant time
to get out of reach before the
alarm was spread.
The battered face of the old man
caused the wildest feeling to pre
vail, and had the negro been found
the hottest fire would net have
been hotenough for him. Mr. Leigh
was highly respected and Voved by i
allwhofcnew him. His remains!
were laid to rest tod at at New.
Hope church. Miss Willie, the'
hr ive young woman who defended
her hosne, her mother, her sister
and their honor, is suffering very
much from the wotltwi on the ■Hide
of her face. She is erne of the m ost

the state, sud a graduate of the
Newnan schools. She is receiving
every attention.
Mr, ILekgh had a habit of answer,

He was followed toefire boat and
the boat was found m the river
near where some ooe landed.
The foot marks at the landing
correspou ten with foot marks
about the dead body, but th're
were no evidences that the negro
had either approached the boat or
left the other side the river with
a horse, and yet it has been report
ed here that he was seen on the
other side of the river riding a
horse. There is prevalent a belief
that Dean had an aeeempl ce, but
so far no evidence has been secured
1 to establish it.
One negro w is suspected and in
vestigation was in ide, but it did
not take long to establish his in
nocence io the minds of all ac
quainted with the affaii.
