TELLS ALL HE KNOWS _____ « And Implicates a man who was not suspected. The ne groes did not know of the respit and Squealed. Chattanooga, Tenn., Dec 6.—A new and sensational phrase in the cases of Mapp and Wooden, the condemned murderers of Marion Ross, was made pir lio yesterday. Ever since the prisoners have been confined to his keeping Sheriff Hyde has maintained that if either or both of them were guilty, one or the other at least could be induced to make a confession. His theory had proved correct, and Wooden, hitherto incorrectly spelled Wooten, has made a con fession of the awful crime, in which he implicates his condemned com panion, George Mapp, and also an unknown negro, whom he names us Will Dayton. When, on Monday mornings Sheriff Hyde received an order from Governor Turney, granting a reprieve in the case of Wooden, the unfortunate wretch was still labor, ing under the belief that he would be hanged that day. Indeed, he was notified that the hour of his execution would be 3 o’clock. The gubernatorial order in which the prisoner was as vital ly interested as was anybody else connected with the case, was not made known to him. Not only was he informe t lat his life hud been spared, but ne was made to believe that no earthly power could save him, and that, guilty or guiltless, he would in a lew hours be executed. With these circumstances . spx rouuding his fate he was induced to make a confession. Wooden’s couiession is givun in detail. It thoroughly establishes the guilt of himself and Mapp. JUST RECIVEO One of the most com plete assortments of TOILET SOAPS AND TOILET ARTICLES Ever brought to the city.
