Birmingham, Ala.. Dec. 6. Reuben F. Kolb, who, in his own mind is governor, and who, on yes terday, issued his message to the general assembly and the people of Alabama, still asserts that h<i in tends to carry out the contents of his message. He still asserts that he was elect ed governor and from all signs be" lieves that the people of the state will look to him as chief executive. In an interview today he says: “My address to the legislature and the people of Alabama means just what it says and it speaks for it self. If the legislature will heed | our demands for a fair and honest I contest law as stated in my address lit will be satisfactory to all our people and to myself. All we ask is a fair and impartial investigation of the fi a ids committed in the August election. If such investi ! gation will show that Colonel Oates received even one majority of the votes legally cast, I will be satis fied and will recognize him as gov ernor. We have ample testimony in the shape of sworn evidence to prove that I received a large majority of the votes cast in our August elec- I tion, and we ask the legislature to 1 give us an opportunity to prove i this fact to the world. “If the legislature should refuse this act of justice by not passing a contest law, then the responsibili ty will rest on their heads. “My friends peaceably submit ] ted to this usurpation two years 1 ago in the hope that it would not again be repeated in the election of 1894. The election held in Bir mingham yesterday resulting in the overthrow of bossism and ring ism, shows conclusively that the people of Alabama are in no tem per to further be trifled with and have wrenched from them their civil liberty. “If the legislature should again refuse to accord us justice, then 1 for one, believe the time will have come for the people to rise up in their might and hurl from power by force if needed to be, the pres ent usurpers of our state govern ment.” DREW A RAZOR. A Bullet From a Pistol Took the Fight Out of Him. Lawrenceburg, Ind., Dec 6. —A shooting took place at the Steven son house this morning. .Toe Gree ly, the colord porter, being into xicated, was making himself quite offensive to the guest in the hotel office, when Major Feeny. the pro prietor, o r dered him from the room. The colored man replied with inso lence, when the landlord advanced toward him. Aa he did so the dar key drew a razor and started for his employer. The Major pulled a pis tol and fired at the head of the de fiant fellow. The ball grazed the temple, cut a kink from his head, and frightened him half to death. With a wild yell he ran from the room, raced down an alley to the river’ half a squar away, and plun ged into its chilly waters before he knew what he was doing. The cold bath sobered him, and, crawling back to the bauk, ho sat down on the cold ground, with his teeth chattering like a monkey’s, and remained there until a policeman took him to jail.
