HEAVY TRAFFIC.
The Southern's Trains are Crowd
ed With Tourists.
The passenger traffic on the
Southern Railway ia enormous
now, and trains going in each di
rection are crowded to their utmost
capacity.
Tuesday night, the 9 o’clock
train going South was jammed full
of tourifets on their way to Florida
for the winter. There were nine
passenger cars, and many were
compelled to stand. Five sleepers
would not accommodate those who
desired them. Although two bag
gage cars were used, most of the
was left in Chattanooga.
The travel to Florida is unusual
ly heavy this winter and it seems
as if the Southern is getting most
of it.

Washington, D. C., December 7.
—There is evidently a case of mis
taken identify in the story tele
graphed from Kansas City of tl e
death in jail there, from excessive
dissipation, of Mrs Edith Arm
strong. better known as “Dovie”
Comstock, and said to be the
daughter of D. C. Forney, the one
time editor of the famous ante-bel
lum paper, the Chronicle.
Mr. Forney lives in Washington,
at 2731 P street, ami today he re
ceived a letter fro®? his daughter,
who is Mrs. D. P. Watrous, of New
York City, saying that she is alive
and well and that she never went
as far West as Kansas City in seer
life. It has deeply grieved the fam
ily that the old scai dal connected
with Mrs. Wa&rous’ early career
has been revived by the story -<>>f
her death.

fort Worth, Texas, Dea. 7. —
One of the most daring train rob
beries ever committed in. Texas
took place eight miles West of here
and two miles East of Benbrook
station yesterday afternoon about
6 o’clock.
As an Eastbound Texas and Pa
cific passenger train was nearing
Mary’s creek it was brought to a
gtidden stop by a danger signal dis
played on the trestle.
The engineer was covered by
three unmasked men, who board
ed the cab and ordered that the
train be backed up about a half
mile, when the fireman was cov
ered and ordered to break in the
express door.
Here'used, but the robbers pull
ed the triggers of their guns and a
'lumber of shots in the air brought
the fireman to terms. He burst in
the «-xpress car door with a pickax
One of the robbers then kept the
fireman «.ud enginsvr while the
others went into the express car.
Fort Worth is the end of the
exprera run and the safe door*

fi"d the safes while the other kept
guard over th* m*‘BF*nger. At 6
o’clock tte train was stopped m I
thirty minutes late’’ it was in Fuit
Worth.
The exact amount the robbers
secured is not known, but it is
said to have te»n near $140,000 in
money, gold hallion en route from
San Francisco to Washington, and.
Texas Pacific checks.
After the held-up the robbers
mounted .tdneJjr horses, told the en
gineer to goa&ead and then made
leisurely off in a Northwesterly
direction.
The express officials here say
they do ®st know the amount
taken, bn't ‘3 hat it is the o n 1 y

carries every evening a large
amount of money. On the arrival
of the train at Fort Worth posses
were iiiunediately organized to
close in every direction, thereby
making escape impossible.

Carried to prison
Cincinnati, 0., December 7. —
Josephine Brand, a single woman,
forty-three years of age, whose
home is in Lawrenceburg, Lid.,
was robbed of $ 10,000 last evening
on Central Ave. ia plain sight
of many people.
She came to the citv in the
morning with the intention of
drawing out of the bank all her
money and taking it to Lawrence
burg, She had a draft for $3lB on
the Citizens’ bank of this city, and
after cashing it, wrapped the m< n
ey in a hankerchief and secreted it
under her corsage.
After stopping several hours,
she drew S9,B(X) from ano her bank
placing it in a satin handbag clos
ei with drawstrings. Then she
I started for the Grand Central de
pot.
As she was going down Central
avenue, near the side entrance to
the Grand hotel, one of the most
prominent points in the city, a
ma*, suddenly slipped up behind
her and grabbed the hag and gave
it a pull. The jerk displaced a lot
of bundles which she had under
her arm and us she struggled to
save them she released her hold on
the b'ig. The thief ran up Central
avenue and disappeared oh Fourth
street.
The woman's screams drew a
crowd and she was taken to police
headquarters. She stated that no
o.ie was aware of her intention to
draw the money. The money con
si-ted of fifty SIOO bills and the
rest in s2(l ami $5 hills.
No description could be had of
the man.
Mias Brand was almost prostari
ed and departed on a night train
for Lawrenceburg.
The police believe it was some
I petty thief who did the job.
