Montgomery, Ala, Dec. 10,—A ill was introduced into the Alaba ma bout* of representatives by Mr Whitten, of Lowndes, during the past weak, which has J brought protest already from every part of the country. It is to prohibit the sale in this State of patent medicines when the bottles or boxes containing them fail to have printed on thorn the formula of the contents. The pat ent modiciuo men argue that they will bo compelled to withdraw their goods from the state if the bill passes, as they cannot afford to dis. close their formulas. Mo., com mitted suicide in hie room at the Win Isor hotel in this city eo.r° time jesterday afternoon by cut ting his throat with a razor. The body was discovered lying on tha floor of the room about 6 o’clock in the afternoon by a bell boy, who went to announce supper, but for reasons best known to the hotel people, the fact of the suicide whs kept a secret from the police aurthoritiea and the public until to day. After the discovery of tbe body the coroner was notified ai d at midnight, last night the body wrapped in a sheet, was quietly removed to an undertaking esta blishment. Burns has been in the city for about three weeks, and at times appeared despondent. From letters found in bis effects t developes that he was in strait eaed circumstances and that his wife is slowly dying with eonsump tion iu St. Louis, He left a letter to his firm,, enclosing another to his wife which reads: “Oh, rnyGodl My dear wife;my heart is broken at the thought of leaving you; but I know it is not for long. Thejdisease which is kill ingyoa will reunite us shortly. Oh, my God! Goodby.” Vis baggage consisted of samples clothing and correspondence main ly from his wife. A telegram to the coroner from the St. Louis firm that the dead mm'i friends have been notified and they will advise as to the disposition of the. body, but up to a late hour tonight noth ing has been heard from them. New York, December 10.—The Dutch steamer Prince Wilhelm 111 brings news of the reported confla. gration at Port-au-Prinoe on No vember 80th. The ffire started at 4 o’clock p. m. and was supposed to have been caused by a taper on an altar. » The' flames spread with great rapidity among the poorer classes f on an eminence at the northern end of the town. Oh account es the height of that portion of the town, the waterworks .were es lit tle use. The efforts of the firemen were directed to confining the flames to the poorer quarter and in this they wore successful, no busi ness houses being burned. MARRIED THE HOSTLER — —— And now her Husband is Wanted for Embezzlement. Springfield, O. Deo. 10.—Sheriff J. D Kirts, of Volusia county,Fla. sent a telegram to Chief of. Police McKenna last night, offering a re ward for the arrest of D. C. Ashley for embezzlement. Week before last Ashley married tho daughter of Dr. D. C, Graham, a prominent citizen or South Charlestown 0. The girl’s frather stronously objected to tho match. Ashley was formerly in Dr. Gra. ham’s employ as hostler, and tho girl fell in love with him. When the father found it out he kicked Ashley out of the house and Ash ley went to Delona Fla. Ho wrote to tho girl arranging a date for their marriage, which wae consummated in spite of the fath ers objection. Tho groom left the noxt morning for St. Louis, and last week returned to South Charlestown and left with tho girl for Chicago.
