the guilty parties and went to
Hickwan’s Ore washer in Polk
county and arrested them, and on
yesterday brought them to this
city.
They are fwi young negr< es
named Henry Beavers and Jim
Westbrooke. Beavers is about 80
years old and Westbrooke not over
21. They are rather pleasant look
ing negroes, and do not have a vi
cious appearance at all. They are
unquestionably the parties, as they,
admit their guilt.
This morning they were seen at
the jail by a reporter of this paper,
and talked freely about the affair
—Westbrooke’s doing most of the
talking.
“Yes sir, we done it, and ’there
aint any use of denyiag it Henry
and me was both pretty drunk,
and was going towards home,
when that came along I says, yonder
comes a man. Lets get some mon

„“So when the fellow got past us
we both jumped into the wago* ,
and grabbed him around the neck,
and Henry took his money and
watch.
“Who did the shooting?” whs
asked him.
“I did” spakeupßeavers. “I did

did.”

THE OTHER ROBBERY.
It will be remembered that on

Saturday evening Henry Mc-

jail but he claims that he can prove
an alibi.
Saturday night near Euharlee in
Bartow county, officers ran upon a
crowd of negroes in the woods
gambling. They recognized in the
party negroes who w’ere wanted
on the charge of robbing the two
farmers.
They ordered them to halt, but

them. One negro, whrso name
