THE WEAVERS
Refuse ta Accept a cut at South
Bead asd Will Str&e.
South Bend, Iml, December 11.
—So far no tiwitlensent hies been
made in the strike of weavers and
and carders and the South Bend
Woolen Mills. Hardly possible
any will be made tor some tiij»e,as
both sides ar» determined to fight.
The proprietors say the great
[cuts were made in prices of goods
that orders might be secured, and
.they are now tilling these'orders.
Also, that the cut in price must
be im-t by a bisreut in wages, and i
tiiAt the employes must be content |
with present wages tint 1 prices of j
goods rise. Reported that weavers !
be got from New York to fill some I
of the places. No trouble, and the'
strike is quietly conducted.
The strikers held a meet ng this*
afternoon, and it is reported that
an attempt will be made to get a
general strike tomorrow morning.

The smady down four of rain

ant to the City people, but river

The Coosa river up to the com

j one living in Rome. In fact navi
; gation was almost impossible tor
I the larger boats, and small ones
were used below Center to haul
cotton to that point where it was

A reporter was talking to Mr.
Geo. Howell this morning and he
said: “The river is lower than I
I ever knew it before, and this rain
i is certainly a blessing to river men.

In many sections cf this country
rain has not fallen to amount to
anything in nearly two years, and

Kingston, Ga., December 11. —
A cyclone and an electric storm
swept over this section of Bartow
county early this morning. The
cloud came up from the southwest
and was probably the storm which
touched Alabama between mid
night and daybreak.
The lightning was vivid, the
thunder terrific and the rain pour
ed in torrents. The wind played
havoc for a distance of several
miles, but it was at its height three
miles trom here. When it struck
the county convict camp on the
Harris place the tents went sailing
up in the air. Some were carried
as high as the treetops. One tent
fell across the tent, in which iever
hl prisoners were chained. A negro
convict was killed instantly.
