A wonderful story is told in Polk county of a unique and qpen vio lation of all laws against counter feiting. Jim Baldwin lives at Fish Creek and dwes not bear an unsul lied reputation for honesty and uprightness. For several days, goes the story, he has been selling a counterfeiting machine on the streets of Cedartown. He takes a piece of white paper, rolls it through a small machine, and it comes out a perfectly printed $1 bill. When asked if he is not fear ful of arrest Baldwin says: ‘•Why no, I am not offering to sell or pass any of this money. I am merely selling the machine, and am backed by a strong con cern who ha? the facility for help ing me out.” lie sells the machine for SSO, and says that he has booked orders for nearly fifty of them . He claims that very prominent mm n Polk county have’ordered of him,‘and that it would astonish any one to know who they were. If this story is true the county will be flooded with counterfeit money. The above was told me by respon sible parties, but I have no means of verifying it. Maj. Singleton, of Paulding, is not only a profound chemist, geolo gist, and all round scholar, but he is a mechanical genius. He has patented a bicycle, which he claims will revolutionize racing, and the customs of cycling. He claims that on this wheel that a speed of forty to fifty miles an hour can easily be made. The machine is so arranged that the rider uses both hands and f et, as motive power, and it is guided by the seat. It is also gear ed in such a manner that the speed can be made slow or fast, to suit the taste of the operator. He is having a machine made now, and will take it to Chicago to have it tested. If it will do all he claims, his fortune is assured, and the bi cycle of the present day will com pare with the new one like an ox cart to a fleet foot flyer. Sometime ago “The Mwtripoli tan,” a New York publication of fered a prize of SSOO f«r the Jb«nt essay on “Gravitation and what is it?” Maj. Singleton in some chem ical experiments happened upon a new and complex idea of this sub ject. He wrote an elaborate article on the subject, and has submitted it to men, who are conversant with the science. Dr. Hoykin’s, of the Atlanta Technological school pro nounced it the most wonderful and profound exposition of a new theo ry he had ever read or heard of. It is absolutely original, and learned men say that it will create a sensa tion when submitted to the world. The contest closes in January and it remains to be seen whether the judges take the same view as oth ers. Near Rockmart lives a prosper ous and well to do farmer. No more genial or hospitable man lives than he, yet there is on his life a shad ow that worries he and his family constantly. He is a somnambulest of a most pronounced type, and performs all the ordinary labors of farm work, while profoundly a sleep. Notes From Plainville. / Plainsville, Ga.,Dec. 17. —(Spe- cial) —Our little city is getting to be a very popular place for Ro mans, quite a little party visited this place yesterday, but I under stand that one of them was a can didate for office, and we could not understand why he should be elec tioneering in Gordon County for a Lloyd County office. There were also, one of your best and most deligent city officers in the jolly party, and as some of our boys have been a little wild on some of their recent trips to the Hill City, a.-soon as they recog nized him, they made a dash for the woods and to this writing have not been heard from. But they should not be s-o easily frightened for his visit was one of peace and good will to men, and we trust he enjoyed his trip to our town and will return again. Several young ladies were in the party, and manyyou'h’s are today yearning for the return of that heart of theirs, which was carried back to Rome last night, Plain ville is on a boom and everybodys getting ready for Christmas.
