So much byway of in- ' troductory. * * * My three year old hopeful, Glenn Edd, was fortuLate enough to get to attend Prof. Everett’s Saturday matine» and that he was a close observer was evidenced to me yes terday morning, when he introduc ed hypnotism into the bouse and saved himself from—well—to make it romantic —say —a terrible flogging. »** For some prauk or other, I had struck his trail and ;was “getting next to him'’ when he darted into the dinning room and behind a big trunk. Finding himself at bay, h* suddenly paused in his merry laughter and in a subcu d but pasitive voice exclaimed “Weep! Weep young and deep,” at the seme time imitating the mystic passes of Prof. Everett with one of his little chubby hands. *♦* Os course I was paralized in the instant and paused and closed my eyes to await further d evelopments Than it was that the little rascal crept out and brushed past ma and into his mama's’room closed the door and turned the thumbolt. I waited a moment and heard him clap his hands a-la-Everett. I a woke and it cost me 5 cents admis sion to enter that room. Now he works his hypnotic powers every time he gets in a corner or wants to gain consent to have something he has lieen forbidden. Like Prof. Everett he generally succeeds too. *♦ In this issue will be found an add from that well known and old re liable book store of Henry A.Smith Mr. Smith has sold the same fam iliar Christ is >• s i ents every year for nearly a half a century. He is still on deck and loading the van and for elegant or exquisit pres ents why go see him at his old stand. * * * Quite a number of citizens were discussing the. new election law to day, and opinions were divided as to what effect it will have on the January elections. Some hold that it will not interfere with those elections while others claim that it will—that when the Governor signed the bill and it became a law then all state and county elec tions for 1895 must be held on the same day in October. I dont know the provisions of the recent bill, but if there were none to it, then “it do seem lack” things were in a mess. Dont it? * * * One of the most artistic show windows in the city is in the W. M. Gammon & Co, store. Mr. George Freeman is the artist and natural ly feels gratified over the many Battery comments that he hears paid his handiwork. THE MINSTREL. Tonight at Nevin’s opera home the boys of the city will give an amatuer minstrel performance. For several weeks they have been rehearsing diligently, and tonight will give one of the best perform ances ever seen in Rome. All of the young men are well known here, and are nice, gentlemanly fellows. Today at noon they gave a very creditable street parade—some, thing never attempted here be fore. Be sure and secure your tickets at once, as you can not afford to miss it. The funds will go to the Keeley League. Miss Stella Lloyd has returued from a pleasant and extended visit to friends and relatives in Birmingham. HAM AND EGGS In Wyoming and one or two oth er >f the northwestern states, it it estimated that there are at least 200,000 wild horses. In the winter the farmers turn out their surplus stock to keep from feeding them, and the animals become very wild. Although it costs less than $2 per head to keep them through the rig orous winters, even that sum would prove a total less, as they would not bring $1 in the spring. And the cost of trrnsporta 1 ion to mar k J is so much that it will not pay to ship them. In the toy stores, at the confec tionary stands, all places where holiday goods are for sale, many buyers can be seen now. A mother with a small sum of money seeks to make the wisest disposition of her frugal store. With anxious face she buys a little something for each one. A well dressed young man goes into a jeweler’s and pur chases a costly present for his sweetheart. And so on through all the walks of life they come aud go. Some are happy and joyous, others sad and melancholy. The Yule tide brings varied emotions to thousands of hear ts. PANSY CHAPEL Several Others and Their names to the List for a seat. The good work of getting seats for Pansy Chapel goes bravely on and if the people continue to re spond so liberally it will be only a short while until it is seated. Mr. Junius George is working at it with that quiet, but telling manner in which he undertakes everything. In addition to these already published the following have added their names today.
