David, an operator in the Central office at Macon and Mies Clara Wimbish were united in marriage at the bride’s home in the Fifth Ward. The ceremony was performed by Dr. Hooten, of Jackson, Ga., and | only the family were present. Mr. J. C. O’Dell of the C. R. & C. of fice was best man. Miss Wimbish is the daughter of Capt. Wimbish, the insurance man, and has only been a resident of this city a few months. She is a 'very handsome and accomplished young woman. Mr. David is well known in railroad circles. The young couple left over the Rme Railroad at 2:50 p. in.. for Macon, their future home. ON EXHIBITION. Barfield s Patent Car Coupler is the best one out. In front of the Rome Brick works office, on First strevt, Bar fields patent Car coupler is exhib ited. A company com) o ed of the fol lowing has btrn organized to place the coupler on the market. Elbert McGhee, Dave Griffin, Thus. Fahy and G. W. Barfield. The coupler is now being tried by three railroad systems, which covers almost the entire south, and if it proves practicable, will bej adopted. Congress has passed a law com pelling all railroads to use patent couplers, and this law will go into effect in 1898. The man that in vents the best coupler has an in" dependent fortune, and Barfield’s patent is the best now out. If it is adopted by the railroads, a monied company will be organ and the coupler manufactured here in Rome. ROME IS ALL RIGHT The volume of business, and the active appearance of the streets and stone in Rome will compare with any city in the sou’h. Mr. J. II Rhodes said this morn ing.“l have just returned from At liinra, Augusta and other points, I’ll just tell you that Rome is the best of them all. The general busi ness activity in Rome is sup trior to any of those places. The mer chants are busier and the people seem happier and more contented. Yes sir, Rome is the town for me - Mr. W, H. CUTTING SCRAPE Lewis Carson Slits a Little Negro’s Coat Open With a razor. Earley yesterday morning down near Mr. Ike May'« residence .Lewis Carson, a big double jointed eoon got into a dispute with George M c Arver, a little monk some tenor twelve years old. Carson grabbed the littls coon and mopptd up the floor with him a while then proceeded to slit the back of his coat with a razor. For tunately parties interfered before he got to ths kids hide. Carson wns arrested and carried before Recorder Spullock He claimed that he cut George’s back with a knife, andshow ed a rusty looking affair that wouldn’t cut het butter. There was a long place in the negro’s coat that was evidently made by some keen edged instrument. Recorder Spullock sent Carson to jail under a $250 band. Next time he will be more careful how he flourishes his razor. Others up at police court were Thos. Lively drunk fined $4,50. Bob Daw, drunk and disorderly fined $8,50. John Billups, drunk fined SB.
