Prof. Rockr
Toledo December 24. The resi
dents of New Riegel are greatly
excited over doings of a man catl
ing himself Prof. Rock and claim
ingtobe a hypnotist. His first lect
ure was attended by about 100 of
New Riegel’s best known citizens,
and his powers upon many of them
were forcily and in some instances
cruelly demonstrated.
Yesterday many of the villagers
who had attended Prof. Rock’s lec

excitedly harrauguing listeners
who previously had scarcely knewn
an emotion, while the religiously
inclined were depicting the past,
present and the future, and much
sympathy was expressed for them
Today Dominick Marks, a well
known resident of New Reigel,
walked to Tiffin in a hypnotized
state,

£HE HUSTLER OF ROME MONDAY DECEMBER 24 1894
A Great Play
H trrisourg tluatre goers who re
m iined home Saturday evening
missed the performance Jof Lottas
s iccessful cemedy drama “Pawn
Ticket 210,’ missed a great treat.
The play is by David Belasco and
Clay H. Green, an I produced by
I one of the strongest companies
seen in this city for a long time.
The play tells a good story and
only artists can produce it success
fully. Miss Amy Lee as “Mag”the
pl >dge, though slightly indisposed
was ideal. She is a close follower
of the famous Lotta. Her work is
faultless, actions na'ural, and the
little lady was a prime favorite
from the start.
Her equals are few. The work of
j Frank Doane, the inimitable, as
| Miontague Flash,”„J. F. Sherry
as “John Sternhold,” Lionel
Bland as “Osiah Greggs, ” and F.
A. Conner as Charles Saxe, wa»
highly commendable. They are ali
artists in their line. Much praise
is due Nellie Dunbar, as Alice
Sternhold,whose part though small
was a masterly effect. Mrs Rose
\\ atkinv,as Aunt Dorothy,and the
balance of the cast, are deserving
of special mention.
To P. Aug. Anderson, who shar
ed the honors with Miss Lee,is due
the highest word of commenda'ion
possible. He is without question
one of the greatest character actors
of today. His work is original, and
as “Uncle Harris” he was at his
best, His death scenawas wonder
ful and the feelings of the audience
were worked to the highest pitch,
and a curtain call followed.

New Orleans, December 24.
T is i fternoon in St. Bernard Par

after making threats as to what
he would do an I went to tl.e house

past the house.
King meanwhile had possessed
himself of his employer's shotgun
and game bag, which, ns the se

loaded only with bird shot. Stiq ■
ping out in the road, he spoke to
Mr. Koste, who was unarmed,
threateningly and presented the
guns as if to shoot. A constable
happened to be passing and Mr.
Koste, spoke toljim to arrest King.
When the constable .started to

A crowd surrounded the barn
and two men succeeded in making

King hid under the hay, but on

The barn took fire and King
was forced out of his retreat by the

By this time the commanding of

when the rope was placed around
his neck he was dead from the
