POOR CHANCE
For Americans in Guatemala, says
United States Minister Yeung
Indianapolis, Ind., April 11. —
Recent articles printed in newspa
pers, telling of profitable fields in
Guatemala for American emi
grants, induced the formation of
an Indianapolis colony, whose pur
pose it was to emigrate to that
country.
This colony was to consist of
150 men. Among its membersxvas
J. Conrad Bray, of No. 125 Colum
bia Avenue, who wrote to P. M. B.
Young, the American Minister at
Guatemala, asking for information
regarding the Haltering induce
ment that have been offered emi
grants
Mr, Bray has just received an
answer to his letter. Minister
Young writes that the interview.-
which have been s» widely pub
lished as having come from the
Guatemalan Minister are absolute
ly false.
The Minister says that the coun
try holds but poor inducements to
emigrants. He says laborers receive
but $1 a day. He discourages any
attempt at emigration on the part
of Americans. The proposed colony
will be abandoned upon the advice
of Minister Young.

Woman’s Hub.
Baltimore, Md., April 11. —The
Woman’s Literary Club of Balti
more decided unanimously to
withdraw from membership in the
National Association of Woman’s
Clubs.
The club joined the federation
about a year ago. Afterward the
federation decided to admit clubs
of colored women. This action was
much discussed among the mem
bers of the Woman’s Literary
Club and it is understood that the
withdrawal from the federation is
intended to show disapproval of it.

THE HUSTLER OF ROME THURSDAY APRIL II 1895,
TRAVERSEPTHE CRANIUM
Circleville, Ohio April 11.—Last'
night I'rank Wellington, his son i
Charles, and son-in-law, Robert i
Ketty, went to the home of Elsie
Lewis, in Millport, and called him
outside.
He came out armed with a stone
and probably would have brained
one of his assailants hail not Chas
Wellington put a revolver to his
head and pulled the trigger.
I he bullet entered Lewis’s head
but followed the outlines of the
skull and did not produce a fatal
wound. All were arrested to-day
The fight was the outgrowth of an
>'d grudge.
Strick by Lightning
Philadelphia, April 11.—The
bodies of Sadie Stinger, aged 12
years, of Fifty-second Street and
hester Avenue and William Brad
ley, aged thirteen, of Fifty first
and Springfield Streets were found
today lying beneath a tree in the
edge of a grove at Fifty-fourth
Street and Warrington Avenue.
Both bodies were terribly burn
“d and it is supposed that the
children were struck by lightning
during the heavy storm which pre
vailed yesterday afternoon. They
had left their homes to search for
wild flowers and being caught in
the rain storm, it is thought, they
sought shelter beneath the tree un
der which they were found. None
of the trees near-by had been
struck by lightning.
An Expectant Crowd
Little Rock, Ark., April 10.—A
great throng of spectators crowded
the galleries of the house of repre
sentatives expecting that impeach
ment proceedings would be insti
led against Gov. Clarke.
Mr. Monroe, the member who
was to present the articles against
the governor, xvas prevailed upon
by cool-headed members to refrain
from precipitating a fresh row in
the closing days of the se-sion.
He, however, introduced a reso
lution censuring the governor for
assaulting Representative Jones
last Sunday. Only sixty member
| voted, forty-nine of them against
lhe resolution.

The Investigation of Alleged Bri
ll ry in Arkansas Completed.
Little Rock, Ark., April 11.—
The bribery investigations ended
oday in a complete vindication
of all the parties against whom
Representative Yancey made a di
rectchirgeon the floor of th
House last Saturday.
The special committee to inves
tigate the charges made its report
to the House of Representatives
about noon today. Mr. Robinson
presented a majority report, set
ting forth the fact that a full and
thorough investigation had been
made, every rumor run down and
over 40 witnesses examined, and
that the majority believed that
there was absolutely noground for
the charge of bribery that has
been so freely made.
The five members who signed
this majority report were all sup
porters of the railway commis
sion bill, to prevent the passage of
which, it was charged, money was
used. No evidence was found to
indicate the use of money in any
manner.

to which the whites were riding.
They imm diately sought shelter,
md returned the fire, driving the
Indians off without loss to either
side.
The Apachts w re under the
leadership of Dmdy Jim, who was
pardoned from the Yuma Peui
