Wronged Husband
Shot to Kill
Jacksonville, Fla., June 10.—
Mrs. P. M. W. Baldwin is likely to
loose her life as a result of the
frightful tragedy of Saturday. The
woman is at her home in a most
pitiable condition. She has been
delirious nearly all day.
At times she will break out in
denunciation of her husband and
then she will address her paramour
'n loving words, seeming to think
that Youman is by her.
The woman seems to be over
come by the disgrace to which she
has been subjected. When the
tragedy occurred Mrs. Baldwin’s
only garment was a short silk un
derskirt. She tried to clothe her
self but her busband would not
permit her.
In this a'most nude state she
was forced to remain while the
neighbors gazed at her and her
mortally wounded paramour, This
preys on her mind and she frequent
ly moans :
How could my husband allow
/»ple to see me in that condition?’’
This seems to worry her far more
than her impurity. Mrs. Baldwin, 1
the doctors say, has been injured •
internally and they fear she may *
die. She says that her husband ’
kicked her after shooting Youman
snd shooting at her. This Ralwin
denies.
YSUMAN DYING AT THE HOSPITAL. ’
Youman, Mrs. Baldwin’s para- 1
mour, is a’ St. Luke’s hospital with !
no hope of recovery. There are
two bullets in his body, for which .
the doctors are afraid to probe.
From ins waist down he is para
lyzed, the result of the bullet which
entered near the spine.
This paralysis is gradually ex
tending upward. Youman, like
Mrs. Baldwin, insists that he was
not in the woman’s room for an
illicit purpose. He claims Mrs.
Baldwin feared burglarsand he was
there on her bed to protect her.
They disrobed, he says, because i :
was so hot. “There is no purer
"oman than M s Baldwin,” said
Youman.
Youman seems to worry more
b«oause ho is deprived of cigarettes
’han about his approaching end.
Baldwin has gone to Pablo Beach,
"here he will remain until his
preliminary trial, Juue 20th. He
"bl be discharged, as public senti
»'-nt sustains him. His wealthy
relatives at Cleveland 0., and
brand Army of the Republic com
rad ! are standing by him.

Indianapolis, June 10. —The
most exciting election of members
of the B >ard of School Commit,

was held today. Messrs. Russe,
Roth and Adams, Democrats, rep
resenting the Fourth, Seventh and
Eighth Districts, respectively, were
candidates for re-election, and the
republicans brought out their
strongest men >n opposition. So in
tense was the interest that the May

ingly heavy vote was polled, run
ning over 2.000 in the Fourth Dis
trict. Latest indications point to
the success of the entire Democrat

P. M. W. Baldwin is named af

P. M. W. Baldwin has mt lived

of a few years.

As the Hustler of Rome has of
ten said before, Rome is the best
military town in the state accord
ing to size.
And Rome is fully proud of her
soldier boys. To see the Hill City
Cadets, Capt. Henry Stewart, as
they marched away in their fatigue
uniforms, with knapsacks, haver
sack and canteen, the boys looking
every inch the sturdy, reliable sol
diers that they are was an inspir
ing right.
At 4 o’clock Capt. Stewart with
his command marched out and
head for the Cadets Special coach
at the Sou'hSrn Depot. The men
wdre uniformed in regulation hats
and leggings, furnished by the state
and in navy blue shirts and jea is
pants. They looked like regular
—and the man who believes these
boys could not campaign with vet
erans, is off his calculations.
The command has a special coach
and baggage car and will camp in
Atlanta tonight and couple onto
the military train and arrive in
camp at Griffin tomorrow at noon.

march out from the Guards Armo

The Light Guards were in Camp
last year and made an enviable
reputation. The Guards have the

like the Cadets, many of the files
are new recruits, they arc a clev

and will add to the reputation,
the Guards so fairly won.

Denii d
Jacksonville, Fla , June 10. —A
telegram to The Times Union from
Key West, Fla , says : “It is now
known that the expedition that
left Wednesday night lauded on
the North of Cuba in the province
of Las Villas, near Sagna. Lachico.
The expedition was under the com
maad of General Roloff.
Immediately upon landing, they
were joined by 2,000 insurgents,
under command of Zayas, Castillo
and Royes. Among the fillibusters
was a very prominent surgeon by
the name of Valdes Dominguez,
author of a book on the medical
students who were assassinated in
1871. They carried 500 pounds of
dynamite.
It is rumored that fourteen
Americans accompanied the expe
dition, and also an expert tele
graph operator, civil engineer aud
a powder maker. The vessel that
carried the expedition, through
not a warship, was prepared to
show fight in case they were stop

was undoubtedly the best equip

states in the cause of Cuban liber

“General Gomez, reported killed
by the Spanish nowspapers, has
invaded Camaguey at the head of
2,500 of the best equipped mon.
At Camaguey, Gomez wa« joined by
700 men headed by a nephew of
the marquis of Sahta Lucia.
The invasion of Camaguey, is
considered of great advantage to
the insurgents. The province of
Camaguey, is guarded by the best
Span sh forces. Martinez Campos,
who was in Camaguey, at the time
of the invasion by Gomez, immedi
ately left for Havana, and called a
meeting of the reformists and con
servative parties with the idea of a
fusion.
The home-rule party, being ig
nored, has decided to disband, the
object being to create bad blood or
a race war—Cubans against Span
iards. Many young men of the best
families of Bienfuegos, Santa Clara
and Remedies are joining the in"

“lii official circles the death of
Marti is denied. It is reported that
the Cuban who deserted the in
surgents stob Marti’s correspon

General Salcedo. This is the foun

death.
“General Sanguilly, who was ar
rested by the Spanish government,
charged with being an accessory of
the noted handit, Manuel Garcia,
in kidnaping, has been tried. The
government failed to convict him
and the probabilities are that he
vill be liberated sh >rtly.
“It is rumored that another ex

three generals, one American, a
South American and a Cuban. Jereo
Buden, a prominent member of the
home rule party and a newspaper
man, who left the island of Cuba
at the commencement of the re
