Mr. Charley Porter, formerly

John J. Mickle leaves for Atlan
ta in a few days to go under the
treatment of some oceulist. Col.
Mickles many yvill regret
to learn of his misfortune. As 1
getthegtory, Col. Mickle was out
fishing and with the sun shining
brightly upon the brem, thew-hite
brem and the yelloyy' brem as with
two poles he yanked them rapidly
from the dam—that is the mill
dam yvhy his eyes yvere dazzled—
eye, even strained. He suffers in
tense agony unless busily engaged
in telling his tale of woe.
Jesse Holt, the colored Jake
Moore of Georgia, marched out of I
the Hi 1 City Cadets armory this
afternoon and followed the drum.
Jesse is a veteran. For a number
of years he has been an honorary
colored sergeant of the Cadets. He
is a colored favorite with the Third
Regiment and when in camps is
recognized as “Colonel, Command
ing Dynasters”—the negroes all
looking up to him.
*
- « *
I remember the first reville
Jesse ever attended. I was com
manding Cadets and the first night
in camp Jesse reported to my tent
and asked permission to go over
to Griffin to edification a few con
stitutors. I gave him a piss, but
1 J sssaid afterwards that on a;-
c unt of procrastination he was on
the wrong side of the deadline win n
taps sounded. The result was that
J esse was caught and carried to
the guard house. At reville, nex
morning, I asked Jessie why that
lost an undone expression. H is re
ply electrified the awakening camp
‘‘Capin, I was out with the dry I
cattle and they ketched me and
made me sleep in the pound.”
