‘DAMN’’ N< T PROFANE
Judge Calhcun, of Atlanta, bad
a case before him on last Wednes
day which required him to decile
whether the word “damn” was
profane or not. A man had used it
when he went to his boarding
house and found his room door
locked by his landlady on account
of some disagreement as to the
price of lodging.
Judge Calhoun decided that
“damn” was not profane, and said
that he had often heard the word
laughed at on the stage.
While “damn” may not be an
elegant cr polite term, we think
Judge Calhoun’s decisi »n a sen
sible one. How the word damn ever
got to be considered profane by
the world general is not clear. There
is no scriptural authority for it.
Upon the contraiy, the “Bible” is
full of it, and the forcible adjective
appears to have had its uses in the
days of the patriachs. And it has
its rises todsv. There are times
handy and appropriate in connec
tion with some kinds of fools and
rascals that we have in these days.

RHEUMATISM RUNS RIOT
When there is lactic acid in the
