C, Moulton, of this place, toil y.
received word from Meeker. G"l.,j
f.o the effect that on 0 of liiej
boldest attempt ß ar bank robbeiy
that hast occurred for some time
was undertaken by three men
yesterday.
Meeker is located sixty mi es
trona a railroad or telegraph sta
tion and the only news »f the at
iair so far known was brought out
rtage and is very meager. The
• three strangers enter'd Mee'er |
during the day, making ti.'-iri
way to the store of Hugos & Co.,
where rhe Lank of Meeker is lo
cated.
They succeeded in ho ding up
the clerks on duty, also the bank
cashier, and looting the bank, but
as soon as they reached the street ■
in their effort to escape they were ■
met by severa l citizensand a hot!
battle ensued.
After the smoke had cleared
away the three robbers were found
lying dead and one clerk, Victor
Dikeniao, and a citizen named
William Clark had received serious
wounds from the bullets fired by
: he robber# before they were mow
ed down.
Photographs wib be taken’of thej 1
three dead robbers in the hopes of'
identifying them. It is believed
they are part of a gang whp came (
over the Colorado line from Utah
a couple of years ago and attemp
ted to hold up the bank at Delta,
Col., where they killed the pres
ident of that bank, but before they
could get out of town two of their
number were shot and killed by a
prominent hardware merchant of
that place.
