in a camp at that place. A special

his morning to carry out the pun
ishment those who had gone out
the mill tried to return to 'he

before they reached the dead line.
The guards found themselves pow
erless to inflict anv punishment cr
to control them further without
causing the death of several. In
the meantime Mr. J. A. Reid, of
the lumber companv, wired to
Keeper Turner, for inetru tions.
Since then the convicts have be n
subdued, and thev are all at their i

Old Scandal Revived.
Buffalo, N.Y, Oct., 17.—George
H Van Vleck, the Standafd Ot'
man, is the defendant in a t-uit fir
divorce brought by his wife, Maria,
of this ci y. The Van Vleck home
is in Buffa'o but Mr, Van Vleck
has spent, most of his time in To
ledo of late, as his relations wi h
his wife have been strained since
1880, when a scandal connected
his name with that of the wife of a
I Buffalo insurance broker. Mr. and j
Mrs, Van Vle<‘k are about 60 year s I
old and have six children.
Phe old scandal was revived two
years ago, when Montgomery Gibbs
a Buffalo lawyer, was found mur
dered in the Van Vleck driveway,
it was ofterwards proved that the
murdered was Commited by high
Waymen. Thedioorce suit is brought
in Ohio on the ground of desertion
and neglect In the early oil days
in Pennsylvania Mr. Van Vleck
