THE DREYFUS AFFAIR.
The exciting Dreyfus sffair has
taken a new turn in the publica
tion by the Paris Figaro of ex
traordinary letters ostensible
written by Major Esterhazy—the
French officer who had been de
nounced by Dreyfus’ brother
which contain the wildest of tira
des against the 4 ignorance” and
“cowardice” of French officers.
Count Esterhazy has been
prompt to deny the genuineness of
the letters, and indeed, it is iu
cunceivable that he could have
pad the hardihood to remain in
France after haying penned such
missives.
But sensations die out as quick
ly in Paris as anywhere on earth,
and the likeliest outcome of this
new Figaro explosion will be a
battle of the experts in handwrit
;ig in which the merits of the
question aroused by the publica
tion will be ultimately lost, in a
fog of conflicting opinions.
