The agony is ov»r.
Georgia gives thanks.
The Blalock Committee failed
to score.
Belligerency rights were not
even granted the Blalock commit
tee.
Special Commissioner Byrd’s
riportand recommendation made
the ’anding.
The legislature has legislated,
combusticated, liquidated, qait
uated and evacuated.
With from two to three hundred
cases of small pox in Atlanta it
would seem that the epidemic had
caught Atlanta’s peculiar disease
and “gone wild.”
Again it is stated that Wi’l
Myers has rot been arrested. Our
older readers may remember that
Myers once lived in Atlanta.—
Americus Herald.
No one force in Georgia has
done more in urging, demanding,
encouraging, pleading lor arid
getting convict reform tor the
State than has the Atlanta Con
stitution. Backed up by the al
most unbroken front of the week
ly press, the Constitution has up
held Governor Atkinson at a'l
times and under all kinds of
“bushwhacking” campaigning di
rected against him m his htroic
struggle to leniova a foul blot
from the State’s escutcheon.
The Hustler of Rome gives up
much space today to the now fa
mous “Convict Bill”, The full
text of the bill is publshed and
will doubtless be read from start
to finish with a deal of interest by
every reader of tne Hustler of
Rome Before the biH reached
the form in which it beca ne.a law,
scores of legislators had spent
many s’eepless nights, while the
reading public had been surfeited
with hundreds of columns ot news
matter ab >ut it. The bill is fairly
go d. Il’s the beginning of a re
form movement and will be amend
ed and bettered from time to
time.
