PAPA LEITER LAUGHS ABOUT
HIS SON-IN-LAW
fifiu TIPS F3OM ABROAD.
Idea as Rep >rted by The Chica

•» Ohicag-, D. c ml,er 24 -Persons
around the Board of Trade think
.. that young Joseph Jailer gets tips
from abroad on the wheat market
and puts this down as a reason
why he is such a persistent bull.
Tn tho present condition of the
wheat n,ai Let and the supposes
limited supply outside of Chicago
and the other great grain markets
a’declaration of war would send
wheat up at least 50 cents a bush
el and afl .rd a tmrket for all of
this cereal that could be shipped
cut of the country. In that case
young Leiter would make millions
of money on the 7,000,000 bushels
of wheat that he will have in the
Chicago elevators the last day of
this month . At lta ß t that is what
the dealers say.
It is intimated that the B itisb
Foreign Office has “leaked” more
than once to the office of Leiter
m Chicago. Young Leiter was a
wheat bull at the time of the
breakingout of the Turko-Gnman
war, and, it is said, made fully
SS<K),COO.
Leiter now says that he does
not care whether he ships out any
whoatof Lot. He declines to
worry over the situation and says
tbath) will get rid of his wheat
in good Hme. The Board of trade
operators think that Leither must
have another tip, a> d they name
the Hon. George Curzuc, the
-Undersecretary of the British
foreign office as the Chicago plun
ger’s friend in London.
“I am really sorry,’?'said L liter

Curzon’s name is mixed up in

are different things. Curzon is
way up on Government allairs,
but he is unacquainted with agri
culture especially with the wheat
market.

Fit'.gerakl, Ga., Dec. 24 —The
arrival of Mrs Sidney Lascelles,
wife of ihe notorious confidence
man end all-r >und swindler, last
night, creabd no little t-xci emetit
in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Lascelles has changed cotf<i
siderably since her flight from
I be city last Ju'y. In answer to a
question as to how long she would
remain here, he rep ied:
“I am here to settle up my fa
ther’s estate', but do not know
now long it will take. I hijve un
derstood my uncle has
and has been appointed tempora
ry administrator, but aa I am the
only legal heir, I am here to get
my rightful property.
Since our leaving Fitzgerald we
have traveled extensively and my
experience has been exciting and
interesting, and a more happy six
months has never been spent- Os
course the death of my father-was
a sad and unexpected blow, and I
assure you it fell with crushing
weight. My husband trea's me so
kindly and so good and the base
stories that have been printed in
the papers against him make me
love him all the m< re.
“When we Ijfc Savannah, after
father refused to let Mr. Lascelles
have money to settle his debts he
gave SI,OOO to leave on. When we
arrived at New York ai d were at
the depot we met Mr, Pope, of
Americus, who recignized us, bpt
Mr. Lascelles made hinthink we
were other parties.
We have been living in the City
of Mexico for nearly two months
and have been entertained by the
best American people. Mr, Las
celles is now engaged ii. the min
ing business with hie brother and
has been reconciled with his fami
ly. The mine is very rich and 1 ,
within two years they expect to
realize more than $200,000.”
I < She utterly refused to say wheth
er. Lascelles came with her to the
states, but a gentleman from tlre
North who came on the train with
hi r says that a young, smooth
faced man accompanied her as
far as Montgomery, who, it is be
