useful life this distinguished and
widely loved minister died last
Saturday afternoon at his late
residence, Ponce del.eon Springs,
Atlanta. The friends of his sis

place, will remember her in this
sudden and shocking bereav

and regard, : "
Sunday’s Constitution con
tained a long and beautiful
tribute to the memory of this
great and good man. i
Queér Weather.
Weawoke on Sunday morning
last between 8 and 4 o’clock and
the first thing that greeted our
ears, was a mocking-bird in a
nearby tree trying to burst its
throat, singing. Afier listening
at the sweet notes «f this wob
bler for awhile, we turned over
and went to sleep again. When
daylight came we arose and
dressed, and nccompanied by our
little boys, took a short stroli in
the woods. The woods were full
of music from the songsof many
different kinds of birds. They\
‘were ceurting, matihg and pre
paring togo tohousekeeping.
On our return to the house we
passed a small sugar-cane patch,
at least where cane was planted
last year, and we noficed that the
rows were green with - young
cane several inches high that had
shot out from the old stubs.
Sunday really reminded us
more of a day the laiter part of
April than in January. We have
‘had no cold weather down this way
at all so far. Everything has the
apperance of spring.
This has, indeed, been a queer
winter. It has been winter in
name, and that’s all. Guess
however, fires will feel very com
fortable between now and the
first of March.”’ .

Ourstreets were thronged with
people all day long Saturday.
Some spent the day, some on
business, some bringing cotton,
some crosties, That means busi
ness to our town. e
Sunday School was organized
last Sunday and we want you to
meet us at the Methodst church
every Sunday afterhoon at 3:o’
clock, to help us carry on the
lgood work.
A few words to the country
correspondents. Very often
you hear one say, ‘‘why is it that
our county paper is not as good
and newsy as other papers pub
lished in towns half the size of
our town. Well, we can in no way
lay the blame on our editor as
he is as good as you will find in
the state. First: weas citizens of
‘the county thepaper is published
in should doour part by helping
to uplift the paper, and give the
Editor the news of the county,
and then we will have a courty
paper. If pnot, what can’ you
expect? Do you really think ycu
can get the news of the county
without country correspondents?
We cannot expect a newsy paper
without the news. So join us in
sending the news. :And if we
don’t geta live newsy paper we
can blame the editor. ;
