The Fire Nearly Reached
Town
It lookad for a while last Fri
day evenirg like the fire that
was reging southwest of - our
town would eventually reach
here and destroy the place. The
wind was blowing at the rate nf
10 or 50 miles an hour, and the
fire made wonderful leaps and
rapid headway. Just before night
our. citizens saw that something
had to be done— and done right
now— to prevent the fire from de

person who' coyld possibly go,
went out andfotivht fire urtil late
in the night. The fire, however,
reached theedg: of town before

one thing' tha¢ helped the fire~
