Messrs. Jarman & Williams
have had a nice awning erected
over the frontof their large new
store, which adds agreat deal to
the appearance of ihis magnifi
cent spructure.
- We have heard many compli
mexits paid Judge T. A. Parker’s
charge to the Grand Jury on
Monday last. It was, indeed, a
very able charge, and no doubt
there will be many bills found
during this term.
Next week we hope tc be able
to give the number of cases tried
this week and the disposition
made of them. Judge Parker
took up the criminal docket on
Wednesday morning and this
will hold the atiention of the
court the valance of the week.
Mr. J. A. Moore has an ad. in
this issue. He" is over stocked
in dry goods, clothing, hats shoes
ete, and heis offering some big
bargams. He has a large stock
of geaeral merchandise, and no
niatter what you want to buy,
you will be more than apt to
tind what vou are looking for in

Miss Fanrie Lee Ledbetter, a
teacher here in our academy,
received a telegram from Buford,
(Ga., on 'T'uesday morning,announ
cing the serious illness of her
mother. She left on the “Dixie
Flyer,” about 11 o’clock, fur the
above place. Miss Ledbeter has
many warm friends here who re
greted very much to learn of this
sad message.
We.all love music. Then lét's
re-organize our brass band and
begin to make some music for
the edification of our town. A
good brass band in a town is a
sreat help toit. We have some
fine band instruments here. So
many young men inour midst
who would be glad to learn to
play. Dr. Green says that he
would vender all the assistince
he could in helping to get the
band . re organized and making
music again. Now, let some one
snake a move, and let’s get down

Uncle Mose cleared his throat,

try were present at this meeting,
and quite & lot'of business was
transacted during the day. Our
home physicians did everything
within their power to make their
visiting : brethren enjoy them
selves during their shoct stay in
onr midst,’and as the Hazlehurst
doctors'are noted for their hos
pitality and entertaining quali
ties;, we! know the visitors had
a good time.
The next meeting of this asso
ciation will be held in Baxley on
April 28rd. :
Mr. D.F. Berry and family
left for Norman Park on Sunday
Morning last, and will make that
place their home in the future.
Mr. Berry had been a citizen of
Hazlehurst - about three years,
prior to his'departure, and du -
ing his stay here worked at the
barber business. He is going ¢,
to attend school at Norman Pa),
and study for the ministry.

On the 13th inst. Col. Grant,
(who recently located here) was
appointed County Solicitor by
Gov. Smith. Col Grant has made
many warm friends in Hazlehurst
during his stay here. He in
formed us a few days ago that
his family would arrive here
{rom North Georgia between the
10th and 15th of next month.".
Ty Cobb, the great’ base ball
player, was in-our town a day or
two the latter part of last week,
looking after his real estate in
this section.. He owns a small
farm a couple of miles from
town, besides two or three resi
dent lots in Hazlehurst. We
svonll like to claim this base ball
‘star as apermanent citiZen of our
town, and may, some time in the
future. Ile was accompanied by
his wife.
