Our Instructions to Delin~

Oh happy day. 'Oh happy day,
The good old summer's on the way,
"T'will'soon be here, my fondest wish
That I cotuld ever sit.and fish,
Yes ever sit and ever wait—
For some one else to dig my bait,
¥ But, we don’t propose to wait
for summer, you are liable to see
‘l'he News office doors closed
most any day now, and a sign
tacked on them “‘Gone Fishing."
So, right now isa good time to
leave some instructigns for the
fwo or’ three hvndred’ delin
cueny, subsaisers who will be
P 76 to call (¥) the day we are
Yiway to settle their subseription.
Anstructions:—should you call
““ pay your subscription, and
find us away and the doors closed,
Zick ’em down and go in, you
will find all the latest exchanges
on' our desk, conveniently ar
ranged for your perusal; you wili
find our best cigars on a shelf on
the right of the desk—help your
self. Should you feel a littledry,
feel down in the corner. just back
of the desk, and you will find a
quart bottle containing 12-year
old rye. Take a drink, take two,
take enough to make ¥you ieel
rich enough to pay that five years
back subsecription accotint, and
8o pay for five yedrs ahead.
After you tire reading, smoking
and drinking, you will find our
subscription book near' the ex
changes. Open it, you: will find
your account without much
trouble. ~Pay it, and credit
yourself. Place all paper money
in- the draw on the right of the
desk, and: the silver in the draw
on the left. Should you have a
ten or twenty dollar- bill and
should need change, you will
find a box just under the desk
containing al} kinds of change,
from a penny up. ‘
After you have straightened
your subscription account, take
another drink, fill your pocket
with our best cigars, then step
down and out, thereby making
room for the next. ,
Don*t ignore this golden op
pertunity to pay your subscrip
tion. Such chkances only happen
once in & life~time.
~ Hon. Jno. A. Cromartie says
that he does not propose to be
otitdone by some of his friends,
when it comes to buying things
on wheels. While some of them
bought automobiles the other
‘day, he went immediately after
wdrds and invested in an up-to
date stroang, well-made wheel
barrow. He sdays that while he
can’t keep abreast of them when
it comes toriding in automobiles
he is determined to stay, only
*just a little behind."
Tuesday forenoon, just before
the noon hour, we were visited
by some kind of a foreigner
soliciting imoney for an orpanage
in far away Paiestine. We went
down into our pocket and con
tributed ten cents towards en
lightening those little heatherns
over there, which no doubt will
ease our conscience for the
hext two years to come.
He passed our office singing,
and we caught the following clas
sic stanza before he got out of
heariny:
“‘I here’s er little turtle dove,
- A-mournin’ in yonder’s pine,
Hits grievin’ fur hits own true love
- An’ why not me fur mine ?*' ‘

M. J.J. Prasier fost s large
and handsome residence, and
nearly his entire household ef
fects, last Friday night by fire,
About-8 o’clcck Mr. Frazier
and children wére in the parlor
playing on the piano, and sing
ing, while Mrs, Frazier was at
chuvch, consequently the fire
had made rapid headway before
it was discovered. The origin of
the fire was caused by a defect
in the kitchen flue. Pt
* The piano, a few parlor chairs,
a book-case, and a few other
‘househbld articles weré all that
were saved. Of course Mr. Fra
zier saved ‘all of his priyate pa
pers. ;
" Mr. Prazier informed us Sat
urday morning, that while he
had S2OOO insurance on his resi
dence ‘he would come out about
S3OOO loser. "
~ There were many things lost
in this fire, belonging to Mr. and
Mrs. Frazier, that money can’t
replace, such as trinkets and
gifts from friendsandloved ones,
whom nave long since passed
“‘o’er the river.” ;
Mr. Frazier’s legions offriends
throughout this entire section
sympathize with him in his great
loss, for his home was one of the
mos & beautiful and. commodious
structures in Hazlehurst, and
¢ontained 12 or 14 rooms.
' He will begin the erection of
another one on the same cite,
right ayway. s ; ,1
It Was Geod,
The Circuit Amusement Com
pany gave an exhibition at the
school house last Fiday night.
The audience was not so large
as it would have been, had not
the firealarm sounded about the
time the performance was to be
oin,
~ Yes, the fire knocked out
‘many from attending, ro doubt.
But it was a good clean show.
The last picture “The Pearl
‘Fisherman,'* alone was a grand
thing, and was worth the price
of the admission charged.
Every member of this compauy
seem, to be homorable gentl>
men. They will probably ex
‘hibit here again shortly, with an
entire change of program.
Should they tcome back, —go out
‘and enjoy yourself for a couple
:of hours.
We regret to lose from ouxn
midst Mr. W.D.Smyth, Wilson
McDowell & Co’s popylar and
obliging” bookkeeper. He has
spent several months out on the
Altamaha, where this Company
is erecting a railroad bridge
across this river, and his system
is chock full of malaria, and it
seems like he can’t get clear of
it, so he has decided to go to a
mountainious seg¢tion of country,
and will leave today or tomorrow
for Anniston, Ala. We join in
the wish, with his scores of other
friends in this section, that he
may soon be Irestored to, good
health. He has many warm
friends throughout this entire
section who regret to see him
leave. .
